I really really like these. Was one of those series that yer gutted when you finish the last book.
If you don't like lots of chars this is not the series for you.
If you never read a book twice this is not the series for you. I enjoyed reading these the second time even more as there are so many threads that you pick up earlier the a second or third reading.

Good series indeed, lots to keep track of though which can put people off. Got lost myself whenever I started a book after a while as I couldn't remember what the hell was going on ;)

Aye, started them again this year and there was one that I just ended up reading again from the start. I don't think you need to keep track of everything to enjoy the story but its when you notice a reference a couple of books earlier than the event :) Also like that good/evil isn't that clear cut.

Have you tried Black Company series by Glenn Cook? Lot older series than Mazalan, but an easier read I thought.

Cullhaven

Hernes Son
Checkout Joe Abercrombie's books about the Bloody Nine.
The Blade Itself
Before they are hanged
Last argument of kings

Also The Name of the wind series by Patrick Rothfuss - two of the best fantasy series Ive come across yet.
The Name of the Wind
The Wise Mans fear

you will want more Rothfuss but he writes slower than George RR.

I bought the Bloody Nine as a box set, quite enjoyed them even though there was something distinctly unlikeable about a lot of the characters. Weirdly the torturer dude was more likeable the second time I read them which freaked me the fuck out, can you get Stockholm syndrome just reading? ;) Been thinking of reading them again lately.

Got recommended Peter V Brett a while ago, fair devoured them even if I thought it was obvious they were written by a post 9/11 yank. First book is The Painted Man.
Have also read a lot of Patricia Briggs, both her urban and classic fantasy.
