40K Base sizes

For those that play more than me.

If i have terminators on the old 25MM base size are they legal to play in current lists?

What then if i have squads on 40mm (the current size) and squads on 25MM.

In otherwords do i have to upgrade all Termies to 40MM for them to legally be playable?

The terminators should be based on 40mm bases now, leaving them on the 25mm bases would be considered illegal especially as it can have an effect on the game.

That said i doubt you'd have any trouble in casual games, it certainly wouldn't really bother me, but some people are likely to have issues with it.

Its down to this: How many opposing miniatures can you fit around that base?

Its also a balancing issue with the actual rules set as to how much space each model takes up versus those on smaller bases, unit coherency for example will make larger based squads harder to wipe out with a large artillery piece.

I thougjht i had read somewhere that upgrading older termies to 40MM actually requires permission as they are not 'as intended'

to be honest i want my deathwing to be all the same so will go with the upgrade. But ive just got my hands on 5 Rogue trader - 1989 slotta Metal termies which will be a pain to put onto 40mm bases i reckon

Its easy actually, just chop the slots off and reduce the remaining areas to the same height with a flat file, rough the bottoms slightly then use super glue and stick em to the base, as long as they are levelled off properly it works great and gives you a chance to do some serious basing :)

I have 5 marine termies from AoBR unpainted, if they would be of use, I'd trade them for some scenery or ork artillery if you have that ;) (or trade them for a curry :))
