ancient graphics card

Ok my ancient nvidea geforce 8600GT is dying and I might need to buy an equivalent quickly if it does go.

I am saving for a new rig, so I don't want to have to spend much more than 25 if I can help it.

Is a G210 the next series up from the geforce? Seen those for under 20.

Toms Hardware is my fav resource for scoping out this stuff.

This lists graphics cards grouped together in tiers from best at the top to worst at the bottom.

The G 210 appears well below the 8600 GT so will be a substantial downgrade I'm afraid.

The full article contains their breakdown of this months best cards at various price points, none of them go as low as your target though.

My approach would be to get the graphics card you have in mind for your new rig and just move it into the new kit when you get the rest of it assuming your current mobo is pci-e and power supply can handle it.

The GT 520 is one band below the 8600 GT on the hierarchy so is slightly worse.

They say that within three bands the difference may be difficult to spot though...
