Anyone still playing this?

On "Trial the Isle" even with my gnome monk, yes a gnome monk !!!! he can heal himself rather well in combat with some ability he got at level 4.

Anyone care to explain a little more about conjurers, how spells work (do you automatically when you level learn the lowest level of any new skills you may get ?), and where you brought your copy in the UK so if we do get tempted enough with the trial we get a local copy.

Though monks do get group feign death and can invis/stealth which bruisers cant :)

Seen monks join a group deep in an instance and have no trouble reaching and a brawler do the same and barely reach us alive having to feign every few mins :)

Yer I suppose that is true, I could always make it down to Lord Nagafen on my own. Guess monks take a bit more of a beating befor they fall over dead.

Another Q for you EQ'rs.....how much difference does race choice make for classes? Does it all pan out pretty even in the end like in WoW?

Like the huge range of class choices and race combos :D

Flight/Adder/Cathral etc will I struggle with a berserker later on then u reckon?

At the beginning "sensible" race choice helps as you have so few stat boosting items available to you, by the time your level 50+ the difference is minimal at most if at all noticeable. I would say go with a race you enjoy playing is more important than worrying over a few stat points.

Berserker eh, can't really solo amazeingly but they can put out a decent amount of dmg for a tank class but I don't think they tank as well as guardians because of that. That said they are still more than capable for tanking in groups it's just main raid tanking which they are not so good at.

Depends how you plan on playing at higher level I suppose, if you think you'll be doing mainly group activities you'll be fine. Raids (from my point of view) were always tank heavy, zerkers probably one of the classes that would be least needed. Soloing again I think you'll struggle at but theres only a handful of good soloing classes.

There's been a lot of changes to combat in the last few updates, plus now AA points are in (these start at level 20 and give you a tree system to spend your points in akin to Diablo). Berserkers are now not far behind Guardians in tanking and they put out good DPS (they have great AE damage). You won't ever struggle with a Berserker mate, but what you are prolly thinking is a Berserker now is really what a Bruiser is from level 30 on. Bruisers (evil side Monks) are really overpowered, but are not a commonly played class because their graphics and animations suck (Mike Tyson doesnt belong in a fantasy MMORPG). Monks, as discussed, are tough too.

Good short discusssion on Berserker tanking here, which is an overview, check the rest of the Berserker forums for more insight. Basically it comes down to you can aim for DPS gear and abilities or tanking, similar to the way Pallies can be configured differently in WoW.

Monks get two hastes (a self and a group) which stack solo to give you nearly 100% haste. Haste is tricky to come by outside of raids and rare groups. Bruisers get a damage proc instead, which is very tasty. Bruisers do more upfroint and fast damage, while Monks shine in longer fights where power is used up.

Its also worth looking at what are the rarer played classes as it makes a huge difference in how readily available good spell/combat art upgrades are. (very rough guide here).

These are just pointers. You should spend some time on the official class forums and at Ogaming (just select the class list of abilities you want to see in the drop down on the left) and make your own mind up. Ogaming has a terrific quest db also.

The only consideration I make when choosing race is for crafting as each race gets to choose a bonus skill (Racial Tradition) every ten levels; two of these are a +5 bonus to a crafting skill. See the EQ2 Wiki for a list of these and as an aside for lots of other useful info.

Its worth pointing out, for folks that don't know, that when EQ2 started they basically envisioned 4 generic classes. When you needed one of those 4 classes you were supposed to be able to pick any one of their sub classes to be able to do the job as well.

Fighter, Priest, Scout, Mage.

Thus Monks, Guardians, Bruiser, Berserker, Pallie, SK were all supposed to tank equally well in a group scenario. While it was no way balanced, things have changed a lot over the last two years. Now Brawlers (Bruisers and Monks) can tank nearly as well as the plate classes and there are few raid encounters that a Monk can't tank.

This is just an outline to give you an idea of the games foundation and isn't intended to promote a pissing contest between the abilities of the different classes.

Cheers Flight nice info and links :D

I'm still farting around with diff classes, but I'm going to go with whatever class seems the most fun and stick with it.
Been reading alot of forums for classes and every class has supporters who claim solo & group a breeze for their class.

Brigands seem unpopular, but not tried them yet.

Oh anyone know what files I should copy over from Trial of the Isle to the main copy when I install it to avoid patching?

I'd just let it patch rather than risk copying things over and something being messed up. Did you get the UK version Bane, and if so where from ?

Git

Your opinion is worthless....
uninstall and reinstall the proper boxed game, what i did only because there have been install issues due to leaving the trial on your pc, or so my guild tells me.

good luck >.<

What's the difference between DOF and KOS ? cos without really knowing all I notice is one is 5 quid cheaper than the other :)

I've resigned myself to the fact if I do get into it I'll need to get the extra expansions but I'd rather start of with the more useful one to help me out when I'm just starting out rather than new levels which I won't reach for 6 or more months.

DoF is the 1st expansion. Level cap of 60, you can start exploring DoF from level 40 on.

KoS is the newest expansion, level cap of 70(?). As it's newer more people are playing there, not a clue what level you can start realistically start playing there.

Hope that is the case then too.....both expansions in KOS...not clear at all on the SOE web-site and I think each regional pack can contain different stuff included.

I am hoping mine will arrive tomorrow, if it does I'll let you know Gottaa what's in the box.

We have found that we can "claim" certain items in-game too which is rather novel.........and some of them are character related and some are once-only.
Also after being here a few months it changes and another item appears, its quite a nice touch.

Do rangers still own like in eq1 ?

They owned in EQ1!? can't remember a single decent ranger tbh :camp:

Rangers seem ok, not as good as the traditional Rogues or Assassins for dmg and their range attack seems the only benifit to me. That said theres a few epic/raid targets that you really want to stay far away from, rangers definatly own on those and tracking can be nice for named mob ganking.

Rangers seems to have improved lately and their damage is insane. They are pretty much top of the dps at the moment but apparently get very expensive at high lvl from all the arrows you go through. No Class owns as such their all pretty balanced. Assasins are the evil Rangers counterparts and deal dmg equal to rangers but are more melee than ranged. Brigands deal very nice damage with the best Physical Debuffs, Swashbucklers same but Magic Debuffs, Troubadours and Dirges give the groups very good buffs, Dirges Melee Troubs magic from what I have seen, and can deal decent damage.

If any questions about other classes I'll try answer them.

KOS I started solo at 52 on my SK at the start area and it was damn tough. In a group late 40's should be doable from entry area.

DOF I can solo there mid 40's on my Fury and the cash and xp from there is very good.
