Got my KOS box today and all installed.

Gottaa it includes the original EQ2 and the KOS expansion....no sign of DOF, so I guess that will need to be a future purchase.
Yeah the AA's are from level 20 with the KOS expansion from what I can make out.

Gonna make my char(s) on Runnyeye, if that's where everyone seems to be.

Odd thing I did notice when I installed full game (after uninstalling trial), I was able to make a new char on the servers and play without having to put any account details in or game code? All I can think of was that I have a couple of days left on the trial, so it let me play without all the codes etc.
Set it all up anyway.

Hope to bump into the odd peep from here once I rack up a few levels, I intend to go slow and just enjoy the game.

Probably gonna end up with a berzerker main.....still like it despite it being a tank.

Level 4 necromancer still without a pet, while my level 4 conjurer had his wierd beetle thingy from level 1. Do the conjurer pets always look like silly creatures and never get back to something more EQ1 like where it seemed a little more obvious what was an earth/air/fire/water pet ?

Necro start with a bat conjuror with a crawler. Your pets change to more appropiate looking soon dont worry.

My 34 Conjuror has a Golem as Earth Pet, A Vaguely humanoid shaped air pet made up of air wielding spears and the fire one now looks like amge made up of flames complete with wizzy hat.

Necros get skellies, shadows vampires, liches etc as they level, higher the pet the better they look. The shape of the pet varies some depending on whether the spell is app1, adept or master too but not a great deal.

Hmmm my level 1 necro had a debuff spell and I think poison spear, no pet at all. I looked in his spellbook as well, maybe it's a trial thing though, can't actually try out crafting in the trial so maybe they messed up more than just the crafting in the trial.

How does the stealth work in EQ2?

Is it basically invisiability? Also, can mages who have 'see invis' able to detect scouts in stealth mode?

Not convinced about the running aspect of a stealthed character tbh. Stealth implies being sneaky and not running at full speed as though being chased by a pack of wolves.

Oh arse .... I went a made a warlock didn't I !!!!!

/slap

Oh well I'll try a necro tonight, although I must say having alot of fun with the conjurer and more instant damage. Wish they had more summonable things like in EQ1

Stealth and invis are 2 different things in EQ2 though both do the same.

My fury can see stealthed but not invis so would assume the same the other way. Also any movement speed buffs drop when in stealth or invis. You used to move slower and different stealth skills had different movement speeds but that changed a while back.

Warlocks get a pet later on though not sure if its just cosmetic or can actually do anything.

/rofl. Good un :)

The crafting stuff has been changed a lot. Also, the whole crafting system is being changed MASSIVELY in the next update (LU 24). No more having to do combines for sub components, just have to have the materials that would have gone towards making it.

Once you leave the isle you can go into the main crafting instances and get a series of 9 quests to make one item from each trade skill. You get a vest with plus 1 to all crafting skills and a 10 slot harvesting bag as a reward, so they are well worth doing. They get you to lvl 10 plus you get the first 9 artisan recipe books as rewards as you go through the quests.

You can still craft on the starter isle, but you need to have a char on hte main continent to put the recipe books into your shared bank for them.

Okay I keep hovering over play.com to buy it, but I'm kinda curious how the various people on Runnyeye are spread around, I guess in the freeport/qeynos split and I'm pretty sure there will be numerous guilds involved as well. As I'd only be playing very very casually while I guess the chances of bumping into others may be low I'd like to have the option should they be on. Can EQ nicely cater for I guess either a chat channel, or large friends list and easy friend communication.

Unless by some freak occurance everyone is already together in one guild but I just kinda doubt that :)

Gottaa,

Just to give you a quick update on how much EQ has changed with regards to Solo, I stated casually playing about a month ago and already have a 23rd Necro as my main. Have a few other characters at about 8th.

There are loads of quests with decent loot and dependant on class getting Adept 1 skill/spell increases isn't too expensive.

With regards to the expansions, I've been happily playing with only the basic game, although it would be nice to eventually get a flying carpet like all the flash bas***ds.

Considering I have to be about as "casual" gamer as you can get soloing certainly isn't the problem it used to be.

Cheers,
Druzzel

BTW - If anyone wants to say hi my Necro is on Splitpaw by the name of "Kelberath".

BTW - You can also chat across EQ2 and EQ if you want to fairly easily. So I imagine you can do the same across servers within EQ2.

Command: EQ."servername"."charactername"

i.e. /tell eq2.splitpaw.kelberath

/tell eq.antonius."charactername"

Cheers,
Druzzel

does a pvp death cause xp loss, or could you solely hunt people to level up ?

As far as higher levels ganking lower levels that's the main memory I have of PvP in EQ1, in Crushbone about 15 level 30's setup at the zone line killing everyone as they zoned in before they even knew what happened. So not only were these idiots killing everyone lower level, they were also killing them as they zoned, no skill, no risk, and I'd assume they thought it was really great. These people though are there for a reason, we regrouped, planned, went in invis, got behind them and ploughed in, once engaged the main force zoned in (who couldn't invis) and we wiped all but one out who gated (how brave). The funny part was then seeing the person who gated appear on the zoneline, so after there actions we killed him, followed quickly by another one (now naked) appearing, so we killed him, realising they were bound very close we zoned out, and pretty much straight away saw they had bound themselves in the fires outside Crushbone, I got bored killing them over and over after a few minutes but I think it took about an hour or so for the masses to get bored and stop killing them over and over as they died and respawned, and I have to say I did giggle when I saw the mass of bodies in the fire. The shame of it was a week later they were back doing the same thing. PvP with no actual effect is pointless, and while being killed over and over down to level 1 would be very very painful and make some people quit, or full loot including there bags and cash, something which might actually have a sting in the tail.
