AVG problem

I have (had until today) AVG free 7.5 version updated and running fine on my pc.
Last night I updated it as normal and tonight for some reason the Resident Shield fails to load....so basically it is set to off.
I repaired and re-installed a few times, but it won't work.
Any ideas?

In the meantime I've installed AntiVir, but the free version only lasts until May it seems.

Any ideas on a good anti-virus that is free if AVG isn't an option now?

I'm currently using Avast! Antivirus mate, its free and seems to do the job ok

Sometimes it AVG gets upset when a download fails for any reason basically. Go to update manager and check manually for updates, there is a process to force a redownload of a failed one but I can't remember what I did to do it, it may have been as simple as deleting a file in the right place ...

Anyway, do a manual update and all should be fine, the re-install doesn't fix it as it still thinks this file is stuck and so doesn't launch properly.

Cheers will try the manual download tonight and see if that fixes it.

Bah, manual updating didn't work.....installing Avast instead as I type
