Beckham retires..pretty much

If he was truely bothered about getting back into the England team he wouldn't have gone to America. This move pretty much sums Becks up, it's all about money, marketing and fame rather than hardwork.

From my limited understanding of "the game" he had three choices

1) Retire and have to put up with Victoria all day moaning about "the good old times"
2) Return to england and have it totally confirmed your not up to the level of the game in england any more
3) Goto LA where most americans think the "football" is the wrong shape in soccer and wow them with your poor international skills, kind of like saying "I rock at PvP, I beat Rorsch"

I doubt the American's will be won over by Beckham on the pitch. He's never been a skills player, he won't dazzle the opposition with an array of tricks beating opposition left and right. I just can't see the ability to deliver a decent cross and the odd decent setpiece delivery getting the crowd going.

American sport is all about glitz, glammer, and charisma form over the top characters. While Becks personal life may have the glitz and the glam his skills and charisma on the pitch are sadly lacking.

Interesting while Becks goes to the MLS, one of the best American Players joins Fulham. :)

Whilst it is the glamour puss Quarterbacks that are often recalled by stats buffs on TV for their careers and stats it is often the kicker knock over a last second field goals to win a divisional title that are recalled.

American football is a game of constant set plays so his free kicks and delivery of a dead ball may well be appreciated more than you suspect. But for 500k a week I'd be expecting a 5 goals a game to be a result of Beckhams actions.

Most of the players will be on 50k a year for God's sake.

What drivel you talk :)

Beckham has always been a model professional in terms of his football and I don't think anyone has ever said anything different. You don't seem him staggering out of a nightclub or spitroasting some girl with another footballer or generally acting the tit like Ferdinand and others. Yes, he shagged Rebecca Loos but to be honest, if I was married to that stick insect I'd shag someone else as well :D

He is a fame whore for sure but I don't think he's ever done anything than try to give 100% to his football.

i reckon he is gonna be screwed over there, astroturf pitches and all, expect serious injury in 6-9 months.

I agree with Ky (for a change)

I don't beleive you can knock what Beckham has done over the past 15 years. He's been great for English football and i wish him all the luck. Why would he want to come back here just to get slagged off by the media saying "he should have gone to the states!"

aye, to be fair to him, if he'd come here the media would be full of how he's "clinging on to his past in england" and "clearly couldnt make it in the states", etc.

You completely missed out on him being arguably the most dedicated and professional player at whatever club he has played at then? :)

Your opinion is worthless....
The only reason Janie rags on Beckham is because he is from London, and she has always been anti London because she lives in the middle of fucking nowhere, fucking farmers.

That's because it's not true. Neville, Scholes, Giggs, Ole Gunner all dedicated and far, far more professional - doubt many Utd fans would swap Becks back for any of those and I didn't see any of them turning up at Tom Cruises marriage after the manager said don't go....
Fergie has a history of getting rid of trouble makers and he saw Becks was getting to big for his boots and sold him on. Based on England performances since he's left Man Utd it's hard to argue that fact, he's lacked stamina at both the last 2 tourniments and to be honest was a hopeless Captain with way to much influence over Sven.

But i should add he was a good player a few years ago (when he could actually run for 90 minutes) but now I suspect he'll probably been found out in the MLS even though the standard is probably only Championship level. Still goodluck to him, although please don't let posh have an acting career!!!

Ole has sat on the bench injured for 70% of his career getting paid a fortune. As far as the other players go, when you've play for ManU, its not like you can go a lot higher is it? You are going to stay unless the boss wants you out which is what happened to Beckham.

He has been England's must commited and influential player for years and I can really only remember this last World Cup where he was poor. Even then in the qualifiers he pulled us through some games almost single-handed.

In Spain playing at a new club with foreign players he was Real's best player when they were having a tough time. In some cases keeping them going when the likes of Zidane, Figo, Raul etc couldn't give a toss.

Its not as though he's not entitled to a bad tournament and it was up to Sven to deal with it. A fair few ManU fans I know also think that their lack of silverware in recent years was caused to a certain degree by Beckham leaving.

You seem to mainly have a problem with him because of his public image, much like Russell Brand but its that image that will keep his kids and his kids kids in luxury for generations. I know I'd suffer earning 1,000,000 dollars a week for mine.
