Best Free Anti-Virus Checker

Hi folks,

Any idea what the best free anti-virus software is out there these days?

AVG used to be the dogs but then it went a bit pony. Someone put me on to Avira and Its stopped several threats before they even had a chance to do anything. Cant fault it.

I use AVG free. On access scan etc etc, nevr had any problems, even when diliberately trying to open an infected file.

Avast here. Very lightweight.

For Mac's I use Sophos free MAC product

used to use AVG but nowadays use Microsoft Security Essentials, its much much better. Dunno about others like avast, but heres the link to MSE:

I use MSE on my Win 7 PC and Avast! on my Vista PC.

Gizmo's Freeware is good for finding free software.

i use both Avira and MSE - they work great - and catch each other's foibles.

MSE kept freezing my PC....sticking to avast.

I have the same setup as Chick. Latest version of Avira antivir seems a little over sensitive (too many false positives) but it's also saved my bacon in the past so I'll stick with it.
