Anyone going to give this a try? Out this Friday, It's a FPS with a RPG/Loot system in the same vain as Diablo meaning 4 different character classes each with skill trees and lots and lots of loot variety. It's also works online like diablo with players able to join others in game and dropout whenever they like, and on the console versions it has splitscreen.
Sounds like a lot of fun and IGN put the first review i've seen up today and gave it 8.8

Link to review for anyone interested :

"It's a FPS with a RPG/Loot system in the same vain as Diablo" - see, to me this is kinda worrying, in that it almost perfectly describes hellgate :p

think i'm going to give it a go though, on hte PS3.

Never played Hellgate as I didn't have a PC at the time, which I think i'm grateful for now. Wasn't it supposed to be pretty bad?
Sounds like Borderlands has a proper FPS side twitch based, wasn't Hellgates shooting stat based, like Fallout 3?

Just looked and realised I still had this on pre-order, PS3 means I can play in surround sound on massive TV, 360 means the old SD TV. Considering now I have the 360 fixed if I actually will use it or to flog it as more and more people I know at work at getting PS3's. I do wish the PS3 had a better headset, more like the 360 though, bluetooth headset may work but uncomfy and the charging is a pain, specially if it gets flat in the middle of a game (or in the case of MAG last night 5 minutes into it :()

I still think the 360 is the better gaming console over the PS3. But the fact my 360's kept breaking made me swap, and so far my PS3 is still working perfectly. Of course this means i'm going to miss out on Forza3 which is a real pain (Forza 2 is still my fav game of this generation), but Uncharted 2 has definatly eased the pain somewhat, fantastic game and overtakes Batman as the best single player experience this year and i've still yet to try the online yet.

Well I had a little look around and found a nice logitech bluetooth headset that is supposed to be comfy, charges using the same cable the PS3 controller does, so that's made things easier.

I do like the 360 but this is my 3rd one now, it doesn't plug into the HDMI and I don't want to spend 50 on a cable, and I never really used to see people online much anyway. The dashboard on the PS3 is something I dislike, and it's far behind the ease and polish of the 360 but a few days beta'ing MAG (pre-ordered it from play.com and got the beta code the next day :)) and I'm starting to see that just random people is pretty fun, and it could be early days, or just the beta but the maturity levels *seems* higher , maybe helped that only older people bother getting a headset as it's not included ?

Hmm, maybe I'll just e-bay everything 360 and see how much I get, which can either go towards getting an elite, or more games for the PS3, or infact one of the new gadgets that's hopefully appearing on the Apple Store when it comes back online

what doesnt plug into the HDMI? if you've got the Composite lead with it, that also is HD, you use the 5 coloured cables and don't use the yellow one (White/red Sound, Other Red/green/blue = HD Composite) Mine has an HDMI port on it, and i didn't buy the elite, and you can pick up HDMI cables from Aldi for less than a fiver nowadays, not had a problem with any of the 4 i've got from there :p

I got 4 HDMI cables from Amazon at 3 each, it's the fact my 360 doesn't have an HDMI port and the provided Composite cable means I can't use the amp so no surround sound, just the TV's speakers, add that in with the fact it still sounds like a jet taking off and it's still banned from the living room

Yeah I agree, also i'm not a huge fan of the PS3 pads compared to the 360 ones, another annoyance is and very few games that come into the PSN store have playable demo's. Talking about the PSN 'Crash Comet' is well worth a download if you want a fun cheap tower defense game where you can actually fight back, nice multiplayer options as well.

What is MAG like then?

I get all the tower defence action I need from my iPhone :)

MAG is great fun, had another little blast last night (servers only running at certain times at the mo), standard controls with some nice upgrade options on things so you can come out in any style of fighting you want. I've mainly focused on sniping which at the moment at least is working out well as lots are going for the run and gun style so I have some targets, and get sniped back often enough to keep me on my toes and moving :) Had a couple of "Wow" moments with stuff going on, seeing 4 jeeps barrel down the road into an enemy compound and then people dash out of them to take a forward position was great, and just as great was watching those jeeps and people then get ripped to shreds by enemy gunfire/rockets/grenades.

Graphically it's not going to win prizes, but it's very easy to get into the action and then it doesn't stand out.

If people like shooters though it's a definate purchase. To me it reminds me of the fun I used to have in Planetside. But like Planetside the commander role is a vitally important one if you want to win, and I've been unlucky so far and no-one's stepped up to the plate, but that said that doesn't detract from the fun, and you can see there is some planning and thought going on, which I could be missing out on as I can't get the headset I currently have to work reliably and won't be ordering the Logitech one till next month

You could try pre-ordering it from Play.com, getting into the beta, and then cancelling the pre-order ;)

Got this on 360 (for my son) and PC and IMO the PC is miles better.

Used the following to unlock it on Steam :

1. Go to http://anonymitynetwork.com/

2. Click "Start your free trial" under the WhoIs information

3. Enter in a valid email address

4. Login with your new credentials (which will be emailed to you in a few seconds)

5. Click "Dowload VPN tool" just inside the "PPTP settings" box.

[Note: The VPN tool is compatible with all versions of Windows including x64 Vista and Win7]

6. Open the VPN tool, click connect TO US SERVER

7. Enter your PPTP password - NOT your regular password. The PPTP password is inside the box labeled "PPTP settings" when you're logged in

8. Restart Steam once or twice

9. Borderlands should now show as available but dont try and launch it while Steam is online

10. Click "file" in Steam, then select offline mode

11. Play the game 3 days before release

I'll add you tonight Soupy, though I've yet to take my copy out the wrapper, how to level/progress things matter ? As I've just started will I be able to join in the fun where you are ?

And I'm considering being the soldier type with turrets or sniper, I'll try and pick one to compliment whichever type you are playing

Everyone should pick this up. I've never spent more than an hour in any previous shooter, but this is more Diablo than shooter.

The multi player is top, but the fact its Gamespy sucks.

If they had hosted servers and character and item data stored server side this would be in the top 3 games ever for me.

Played this on and off with some people from work at the weekend. Only played soldiers though, do the other classes do substantially more damage ? one boss took ages to finish off with two soldiers
