Interestingly, I've done a bit of reading on this. It turns out that (if wherever this came from is true) that CoH wasn't making a loss. But they were shutting the game down now before it got to the stage of cutting their losses.
That doesn't add up to me, but it did seem a bit sudden, the general gist is that the staff were even surprised about the news coming out. Various petitions have gone up now trying to get NCSoft to at least attempt to sell the game to another company now, instead of just shutting up shop and suing the fuck out of anybody who tries to make something similar.
