One of Depeche Mode more successful hits, got to number 6 was Everything Counts, though other hits got to number 4 like "people are people" and "barrel of a gun". I think everyone will have their personal favourites that will stick with them while growing up and stay with them for a long time.
For me the 80's and 90's was their best period with Get the balance right, people are people, blasphemous rumours, stripped and so on.
Was not really a cure fan but In between days and boys dont cry and Lullaby are more memorable for me. Same goes for Echo and the bunnymen's bring on the dancing horses and killing moon.

I'm not overly keen on the really early Depeche Mode albums, but their five run of albums - Black Celebration, Music for the Masses, Violator, Faith/Devotion and Ultra (my personal fav) is great - sadly brought to a crashing end with the dire 'Exciter'. 'Playing the Angel' was a decent return to some sort of form, but their last album 'Sounds of the Universe' underwhelmed me somewhat.

But out of the 3 bands they probably are my favourite, even if they haven't done an individual song that's as great as The Killing Moon or Friday i'm in Love.

Yeah as you'll gather from my posts, I favour Depeche Mode too, somewhat, but agree they never had any killer tracks like The Killing Moon or Friday I'm in Love.

The Cure, Just Like Heaven is just a perfect pop song and their Disintegration album is one of the most wonderfully depressing albums ever made.

Only really liked Enjoy the Silence by Dep Mode, tis one of those serious contender songs for the funeral list (along with Napalm Death obviously).

Never listened to Echo &tbm... probably hit the Iron Maiden phase instead.

The Cure all the way though.

See, all of the above come from times when people actally composed songs and put some thought in to music as opposed to the bland, mass produced shite of today. Some more brilliance for your delectation.
