I've started pottering over on the f2p servers on the completely new server Cannith (no uber characters, no 32 pt builds, fresh auction house etc).

Finished off Korthos Island and walked into the harbour to see I was in Harbour 7 ........... even when the euro servers launched I don't think we got up to 7 instances although it was a while ago.

It's nice to play in a zone full of people :)

What is the difference in content on the ftp option?

Interested as I have let my WoW sub go as I won't have much time at the mo, but still fancy the odd hour here and there.

How solo friendly is it (I know it is a MMO, but I don't want to drop from a group due to time!) can u progress, even if slowly solo at all?

I'm sure I read that you can hire henchmen to help somewhere?

You can probably solo "easily" with good soloing classes up to about 6th level in the full game but in Unlimited I'm not entirely sure as I haven't taken a look at what adventures are available for free as some are packaged up in the micro payments side of things.

2 Races are store bought Warforged and Drow (although this can still be opened by favour points)

2 classes are store bought - Monk and Favoured Soul (although this can still be opened by favour points)

You can only have 2 characters, although you can buy more slots in the store

You start with a max of level 4, although sigils drop in level appropriate chests that expand this to 8,12,16,20 (Copper,Silver,Gold, Platinum Sigils) or you can buy them in store.

Hirelings - yes you can purchase hirelings which are one shot helpers, although they will follow you through a quest chain as long as you don't go back to the city in between etc.

It used to be that you could only have one hireling but I am sure I read that there is a way of filling your whole party out now. I'll have to test that as it may only be the DDO store hirelings that allow you to do that.

Jump onto Cannith the new server if you do as it's busy as hell and if you have an hour you should be able to PUG up quickly and get something done, or solo to your hearts content until mid-levels I would think.

Sigil- Just picked up my copper sigil :)

Normal hirelings - okay just had a look at these and I think it's still one per zone with a 5 minute cooldown before yo can summon another. What has changed is that they last for an hour after first summons, so you can now re-summon them in multiple quests. Also if you have at least 1 minute on a quest they will remain in your party until the end of the quest.

Gold Contract Hirelings - obtained from the store and you can have 5 in your party. Not bought one yet so apart from the cost ( 10 Turbine Points for 1st level hireling, 20 TP for 2nd and 3rd level hirelings) that's all I know for now.

Turbine Points - by the time you get off the starter island you should have at least 25 favour which I think gives you 50 TPs free. When you get to 50 Favour you get another 25 TPs. I am assuming this continues as you advance in favour.

Buying something like the drow race costs 600ish TPs so but only 400 favour so you will likely get drow unlocked before you get the Tps to buy it.

nope the basic game is free it just works on premium content being unlocked by micropayments....

Yup , client free and you pay for what you want once you're playing with Turbine Points which you can earn in game (slowly) OR buy with money.

I think most big areas beyond the Harbour/Marketplace/House Enclaves and some of the old big quest chains have been packaged and put on the store.

I seem to have buggered it up. Tried 2 or 3 times to create an account and at the end of each it told me there had been an error. Now if I click on the start now button I dont even get in to the account creation bit - it just tells me that I am in error.

The ticket needed a credit card number and cardholder name but I just filled 'em in with 0's and seemed to get round it.

spent 20 minutes trying to create an account, got annoyed and shoved WoW on... I amaze myself with my own stupidity sometimes.

After having to type Carpal Schwartz as a security check I finally took the hint to quit...

mine took a few hours to come through Cull and even tho I already had a turbine account for LOTRO, I had to make a new account once the product key was sent to me?

I went to the forums and there was a sticky there on the tech assistance section - called something like creating account problems. It asks you to contact/fill in form there for a free product key which they send.

Ok got the client etc all sorted now, rolled a Pally who is the def/dps choice.
Not sure if this is the best noob build to start with?

I want to be able to do dps solo, but be useful to gps too.

Am I on the right track?
