Dead Mobo?

Hi Guys.

I'm wondering if my Motherboard has gone in my Gaming PC.

The computer was working last night, went to turn it on this morning and it powers up in terms of GPU fans spin, case fans spin, sounds like the HDD winds up however the monitor outputs no signal and after about 10-15 seconds it shuts itself down then restarts again.

I thought it may have been the PSU, however the fan in that still seems to be working.

I've tried using the onboard DVI port and still no signal, I've also tried another GPU I've got lying around and also nothing, so the only thing I can think is that it's the Mobo.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Sept.

Slight update..
If I drain the caps on the mobo, pull the battery and wait a while, putting it back in and connecting the dvi to the mobo direct I can actually get into windows. However as soon as i shut down the same problem occurs as above.

I've tried replacing the CMOS battery outright also, but that doesn't help either.

It's quite frustrating.

Similar thing happened to me, PC would power up but if I powered down it wouldn't power back on unless I pulled the plug for about 20 minutes, after that it would power up again. It was the PSU. I got a PSU tester to prove it and then sent it back to Scan for replacement as it was still under guarantee.

Ahh Brill, Thanks mate.
I was starting to query the PSU, I've contacted Corsair as the PSU unit has a 3 year warranty, Hopefully i'll hear something back soon.

Thanks again.

Ok.. back to the drawing board.

I've had the replacement PSU and the problem still exists.
I can still get into windows if I short the CMOS clear jumpers
I'm really starting to think the mobo is borked. :\

Well if resetting the cmos fixes it it may be a virus. could try a bios update and take the hdd out and scan it on your working machine.

It does sound like a mb issue though but resetting the bios shouldn't make it work again hence possible virus alert. Various people do a command prompt or usb bootable pen drive virus scanner. Maybe unplug your hdd and then try reset cmos and reboot to see if the machines works normally (obviously won't boot into widows, but should count memory and video should work.)

Normally with motherboard issues you'd get a bleep or three if memory or graphics card aren't working or something like that (see motherboard manual) and as you're not getting that it's a little suspicious.

Did they test and replace your PSU? I wouldn't expect them to replace it if you other wasn't faulty, if it did go funny it might have affected your MB at some point.

Never thought it could have been a virus, would have been something to try if I'd have thought of it before I took the comp apart :)

Na Mate, they just sent me out a brand new one :) I posted the PSU off on the 21st of September and I had a brand new replacement on the 26th.

I've RMA'd the Motherboard anyway now as that also had a 3 year warranty.
Should be interesting though as I have a i5 2500K, which I can't find any good motherboards for now a-days (Had an MSI B75-G43 Gaming, which they no longer make) so not sure what the're going to send me back if they have to replace it.

I've got my old ASRock Motherboard in atm, which came with the CPU when I bought the bits (it's naff but at least the computer is working atm)

Thanks for the help though chaps, I'll just see what happens, lol
