I have problems with it at the moment, as people tend to get too depressed/annoyed playing against my blood angels
so been playing some board games and such instead.
still at it though, and keep considering tournies.
Had a (1000 point) game today in fact against someone that does quite a few tournies as dark angels.
he had:
1xland raider, with 5 tactical marines and Belial (terminator armour, lightning claws, allows termies as troops).
1xcrusader lander raider, with 5 termies in it, some with lightning claws, 1 with thunder hammer, 1 with assault cannon + chain fist.
i had:
Dante
Sanguinary Guard (w/banner and 2xinferno pistols)
Death Company (all with jump packs, 3 with power weapons, 2 with normal weapons), led by Lemartes.
Death Company Dreadnaught.
The moment i saw his army, i thought i was fucked - with my grand total of 4 melta-type guns being the full extent of my antitank force.
We get dawn of war deployment, I go first and place the dreadnaught hidden behind a building. he deploys nothing. I move forward in my first turn, and then had what i thought was my first piece of luck - he decided to charge my dreadnaught with his termies!
now, i dont know if you've seen what these dreads can do, but i've had one butcher 30 orks in a single turn before (and no, not through combat resolution, or running them down - purely from its claws), and thought that taking out a few termies should be no problem. Out of 5 attacks, needing a 3+, i hit with 1. so that was a bit shit! it then got torn apart by the chain fist, so that was even shitter. and that was one of my 2 units with anti-tank capabilitys out of the fight before firing a shot.
So my turn 2.
I land my sang guard + dante behind the LR with lascannons - and with their 3 melta gun equivalents manage to stop it shooting for a turn.
My death company i land a fair distance out from the termies, to ensure the terminators cant get the charge - as that would make me proper fucked.
His turn 2 he puts all his firepower into my sang guard, but only manages to kill 1 - and that was with the melta on the crusader (gotta love 2+ saves!). He pulls his termies away from my death company, to deny them the charge.
My turn 3. i chase after his fleeing land raider, and the inferno pistols finally do their job and blow it sky high. the troops inside it though are too far off for me to charge - similarly for my death company.
His turn 3, he again puts all he can into my sanguinary guard, this time taking 3 wounds off dante (4W chars ftw) and killing a second SG. luckily he fluffs the charge rolls (being in the crater left by the land raider), and more or less seals his fate.
in my turn 4, his 4 termies, Belial, and tactical squad are nicely surrounded by my death company on one side, and the sanguinary guard on the other, who move in for the kill - butchering them all for no losses.
his turn 4, and its a last ditch effort from his crusader - a good set of rolls from him (and a poor set from me) will guarantee the draw, as it takes out my only troops, and my only anti-tank models, in one round.
Its not to be however, as his assault cannon fails to rend, his multi-melta misses, and of the 9 wounds he scores, i only fail 1 save.
my final turn, and dante moves in for the kill while the 2 surviving sang guard folks leg it to cover - and an objective. Dante finally (having missed or failed to penetrate with his melta the entire game so far) manages to redeem himself however, blowing it sky high with a single shot, and surviving the backwash from the blast too.
my other friends that were watching then spent the next 10 minutes bitching about blood angels
