Dresden Files 10 : Small Favour.

First Dresden book i've read and felt disapointed by. This one felt very phoned in, i'm hoping this isn't the beginning of the end and Jim Butcher is getting bored of Harry. It completely ignores the 'big' storyline that had been building over the last few books, very little character development in this one and alot of the major characters (Murphy, Thomas and even Harry himself) seem off somehow, the story is as fast paced as ever but does feature to much 'preachy' nonsense.

Definaly a 'Placeholder' story this one.

i know what you mean.
it was a good story in its own right i thought, but it disappointed me with its lack of 'overall storyline'. it also seemed far too short to me.

Having watched the TV series i'm quite tempted to try out the books, is there a set order to them?

yeah, starts with Storm Front.

books are much better than the tv series i'm told (by everybody thats seen/read both. i've stayed away from the tv series), and well worth giving a go.
the first book i think is a bit weak compared to the others (hell, it was written in a creative writing course to prove to his teacher that the concept *didnt* work, apparently :p), but worth reading first for the background and continuity.
