Elder Scrolls Online - Beta Test Invitation

Still can't login :(

Did the beginning bit last night before I got kicked.

Looked good, played surprisingly well at medium settings even on my ancient rig (Skyrim struggles on low)

Nice char creation and the feel of the game is good. Some nice touches.

Not convinced that P2P is the right way tho. WoW can do it as peeps have invested years of time into game, new games ...not convinced myself.

Oh well back to rift for me if I can't get back in.

There has been a lot more problems this time round for me, long zone transitions, crashes, im not sure sure if its these but unlike the first time round I am just not feeling it.

The monthly Sub puts me off as well, time will see...

I wonder id so many MMOs going F2P has effectively killed the subscription model now. Even a gaming brand as big as TES is struggling to drum up enthusiasm for a 40 plus monthly sub.

The jury is out for me on which model is desirable. There's a lot to be said for a sub based model that leaves everyone on an even playing field with "pure" gameplay. On the other hand F2P entices more casual players in and for some like me who are relatively able to spend cash on a hobby but just don't have the time to grind for endless hours any more micro transaction although annoying to some may let me play a game I might not have bothered with otherwise.

Hmmm... either way still not sure ESO is grabbing me although it seems fun enough, it's just a bit "more of the same". Perhaps traditional MMOs are a thing of the past, the same thing but with shiny graphics maybe isn't going to cut it anymore, which is a shame.

having played it till i finished the first island at about level 6... its ok. its just... i dunno, really uninspiring.
variety of ways to kill stuff - yep. but none of them seem to have any real impact, beyond healthbar goes down.
all the quests seem to be just 'go here. press e on a thing. come back.' - quite often without any combat or anything. the final quest on the starting island, which you'd expect to be quite epic to give people a taste... saw me walking into the palace of the big nasty enemy, picking up a key, opening a chest, and walking out. no fights. no sneaking. nothing remotely interesting. even the stated goal of the quest was really dull.
at the moment i'd be very surprised if i buy it for release.

Personally I think TSW has the best model. Pay for the game, get the majority of the story FoC, just pay extra for the expansions and vanity items.

If ESO went this route: Released game as it stands on day 1, full content, for 40 with options to sub for 'points' useable in the shop to buy DLC's etc id probably swing for it. As it is though its not grabbed me this play through and ill probably not bother on release.

I agree actually, the combat is a bit "spam the button and watch the health bar go down slowly" I really really want to like it but i'm struggling at Level 6 on the starter Island.

Now I know it's little more than a tutorial and you really can't judge a MMO on the first 10 levels but. hmm..

I really do find the graphics quite sterile, clinical and shiny, it's just doesn't feel atmospheric to me. Bugger...

Lvl 11 Templar, 8 DragonKnight and 7 Nightshade here. Judging a game by the starter island is insane imo but up to you. I am loving it and once you are off that island there are loads of quests involving conspiracies, treason, and plots which keep the storylines interesting. There are plenty of side quests which usually involve rescuing towns, kidnapped daughters, repelling invasions etc

Not sure what you were playing but spamming buttons I have not done at all this game and had to scroll to the top to see if we are talking about the same game.

I have already preordered it and can see me playing this a long time to come

Having got off the starter Island I still say its not gripping :) for me if the game doesnt grab my attention by the end of the starter / tutorial zone it never will. Dont get me wrong its an okay game. Its not a brilliant game and not worth, for me at least, paying both 40-50 and 9 a month sub. I havent seen anything so far that makes me want to explore further. Now if they did a life time sub @ 200 Id be tempted :)

i'm yet to find a fight i couldnt win by just holding down left mouse button, and still come out of it at 80%. i know its tutorial island, but still.

the quality of storywriting so far hasnt exactly inspired me to expect masterpieces later...

The quests and story line do seem to get better one i'm off the island although I do still find combat is me hammering the left mouse button for my staff of fire burniness with a quick 1-2 thrown if for luck. I suspect things get better later when you can change weapons.

Anyone tried any PvP?

I have done RvR (got to lvl 12 and Rank 2 RvR). RvR has plenty of quests like kill 20 players, scout a certain location deep behind enemy lines, capture a Mine, Capture Keep etc and all can be obtained the same time.

It reminds me a lot of DAoC in a few ways, the Frontier area is Huge with ruins and areas to PVE if brave enough to risk getting attacked by enemy players. I did one of the scouting missions and on horseback with 17% movement (you can feed your horses once a day to increase stamina, speed or strength) and it took me 20 minutes or so to get there and back without stopping. Along the way I saw loads of places to PVE as well as enemy keeps, mines etc so should be plenty to do there.

I didnt get the chance to try take a keep but we had a few 3 way fights in the open, around a lumber mill and frequently using mountains to try block line of sight or ambush enemies. It was fast and fun and totally unorganised in the fights I was in. It would be great fun if organised.

Remember anyone can res another player with a soul gem so reliant on healers getting people up is not needed. Looking forward to getting lvl 15 and the ability to swap weapons so I can try multiple roles rather than a healer with a couple of DD spells

Your opinion is worthless....
did test it a bit, got to level 7 on a healer easy enough nothing overly exciting, will be playing purely for the rvr endgame, already got a guild i have run with in the past as well, so the valour legion it shall be :) see you on the battlefield.

We are going Aldmeri Dominion. Which side are you going to be on so I can look out for you? :)

It gets harder as you get higher lvl and there are some surprisingly hard mobs if you dont pay attention.

guild looks interesting Cath.

right now im torn. I imagine the game will be fun but its the sub thats putting me off, my work schedule means im only 50% a month in the UK currently and I cannot justify a monthly sub with that work rate. If they announce a lifetime ill probably be in...

Great review Cathral, I had almost written it off but that review puts a much more positive slant on the game mechanics. Will no doubt dabble :)

Yes, there are changes too I heard once you complete the prison section you go to the city next and not the starter areas (but you can travel to them ie you start in Auridon but can travel to Khenarths Roost if you want)

Personally I will be doing but some might want to bypass that and start in the bigger world.

I found the review to be accurate as far as my 12 levels were concerned and hope there is another beta this weekend as they teased another coming soon

If anyone does go for the guild I am in I am called Canlyn in it if you want to put my name down for who you know. I shall let the rest of CUK admit to being in or not as they choose :p
