Fallout: Introduction

(OK. This is just a basic introduction i worked up. It gives you a general overview of the world we're working in, and tells you what your mission is. I'd recomend you read it, but i guess its not really essential.)

Briefing:

You enter the briefing room, along with 4 other nervous looking cadets. The general at the front turns towards you as you enter. At ease, brothers. Please be seated. As you sit, the general lowers the lights, and turns on a projector screen, showing a map of the western United States. As you know, several years ago we drove back a large army of the creatures known as super mutants towards the eastern wastelands, over the mountains. An image of a super mutant appears, 8ft tall, and heavily built, holding a heavy machine gun in one hand, and a length of lead pipe in the other. It is exceptionally ugly, but its eyes hold a deep set intelligence. The super mutants were one of the greatest threats the brotherhood faced. Genetically engineered, they were superior to us in almost every way. If it wasnt for an elite squad of brotherhood paladins successfully penetrating their base, and slaying their master, wed all be serving them now. But they are not the problem. As you may also know, shortly afterwards a large portion of brotherhood forces pursued them, in mighty airships. Their mission was to check up on the mutants, and prevent them from organising any sort of attack on our location here. However, we lost contact with the airships as they passed the ancient city of Chicago, in the midst of an electrical storm. We have reason to believe that they survived, however they do not seem to want to reinitiate communications with us. Given the composition of the force, it is possible that they have decided to create a new brotherhood, without our interference.
We cannot allow this to go unchecked. We cannot take the risk that they will build up a force, with which they may attack us. Thus, your mission is to travel to their territory, and once there infiltrate their forces and find out all you can about their situation and plans for the future. You will be given equipment that is not too easily recognisable as brotherhood equipment, but still provides many of the benefits.
One last thing, this is a covert mission. Thats not to say I want you to do a lot of sneaking around, thats not the brotherhood way, but I do mean that you should try not to get caught as spies. Its likely that they will not take kindly to us spying on them. Indeed, this is why you 5 have been chosen. You are the best we have to offer that will not be recognised by them. Although we could send a paladin assault squad, in full power armour, we feel that in this instance a small squad of unrecognisable troops will serve our purpose better.
You will be given a BoS C-177 combat helicopter with a fully trained pilot for the mission, though we would recommend you find alternative transport as soon as possible, since the C-177 is a distinctly western piece of technology, which our eastern brothers would instantly recognise for what it is. The C-177 will be better off staying on the outskirts of their territory, in case an emergency pickup is required.

"In summary then, you are to travel to the East, and find out the present condition of the Brotherhood forces there. You should report back to us once you have significant information.
Do you have any questions before you depart?

(ooc: any questions about the mission, about the history. ask away. i'm sure i've missed something out. And this is set in the timeline just after the events of Tactics. (I wanted to give you a Vertibird rather than the C-177, but apparently they wernt developed for about another 100 years, so i couldnt do that...))

I'm Jo Laslo and I have a couple of questions.

How long ago did this sect lose contact with us?
How large a force were they then? What resources were they given and who was leading them?

(ooc: Its a little tricky to supply dates and stuff, since theres some glaring inconsistencies in the brotherhood source book... for instance, the super-mutants were first found in 2161, and the eastern bortherhood was formed when a bunch of peopel were sent to track the mutants after the war. Yet it later says that general simon barnaky, born in 2147, was one of the first generation of warriors never to know life in the western brotherhood, but to have been born into the eastern brotherhood. So. This is why i create my own history, and ignore the source books...)

"We lost contact with them about a year ago." (ooc: i reserve the right to slightly modify this data at a later date...) "They were led at that time by General Simon Barnaky. They took with them many of our best warriors, a force of about 1000 of our paladin warriors, with the best personal combat equipment available. However, they took few in the way of support staff - barely 200 knights and scribes. They took a few scouter vehicles, but no APCs or tanks sicne these were too heavy for the aircraft."
