Anyone tried this, it's pretty strange but seems like good fun. Sort of a cross between Football and Magic the Gathering - I can imagine it'll be quite addictive trying to get the best cards, shame the EA servers keep going down at the minute.

im tempted to go get this.

Does it play like fifa, and how hard are the better cards to get?

the real question is... can I swap my mars bar for a Ian Rush panini sticker like I did when I was young and do you get the silver club logo ones?

The match playing plays like a proper game of fifa.
You get a basic starter pack once you create your teamname consisting of a bunch of hoofers from the lower leagues.
Cards packs are pretty easy to get - they are split into three ranks (Bronze, Silver, Gold) each card pack gives you 12 new cards. You can either buy them using Microsoft Points (20 - Bronze, 40 Silver, 80 Gold) but you also get ingame points for playing the game which you can use to buy the packs (500 - Bronze, 2500 - Silver, 5000 - Gold).
It's pretty easy to get these points playing a match will net you between 300 - 1000 points varying in how well you preform and the skill of the opposition.

With cards you can either keep them in your squad, add them to your collection (panini stickerbook) once they are in your collection you can't use them again, however you do get points for putting them in the collection (500ish for a gold player) - or you can put the player up for trade - where other onliners can bid for them.

Aside from player cards you also get coachs, phyio's, managers (all add bonuses to you team) stadiums, unlockables, training and ability cards - things you can use in matches like : Strict Ref (if you find yourself playing Stoke use this to get some of them sent off), fitness boost, avoid injury etc, etc...

You can play any team in the game against the AI or you can take your team online and compete in torniments and cups.

Got Ronaldo (the diving tosser one from United) in a gold pack yesterday. Dumped him in the Auction House with a buyout of 50,000 and when I turned it on this morning he had been sold! With that I was able to buy 9 good quality players that suited my formation and boosted my overall rating from 2 stars upto 4 stars.
Anyone who has got Fifa09 i'd definately recommend downloading this mode, it's the best thing on the game, and the EA servers now seem to be running much smoother.

If you push down on the right stick when you have a card highlighted you can get the information in a much more readable view.

How did people get on with this in the end?

I started off with an all Italian 4-4-2 with a 90 chemistry and ended up spanking 90% of my opponents. Did it all by just playing games to earn coins as well. Its pretty funny watching your silver or low gold defender make up 10 yards on their Henry or Ronaldo and knock him of the ball.

Chemistry has far to much impact at the moment and needs to be toned down a bit. Not sure exactly what it does but when it get into the 80's and 90's it must raise all of your player stats by quite a bit.

I then got a Scolari in a pack and went all dirty. Bought some packs with MS points and ended up with a 4-1-2-1-2 100 chemistry Brazilian team. Bit silly really and spoiled it a bit. Haven't really been back since.

Its a good idea but ultimately spoiled by EA's greed. The card economy on the 360 is pants and they need a mode that limits the amount of packs you can buy or the amount of gold cards you can have etc to make it more viable. As it is its a playground for people willing to spend silly amounts of real money on gold packs.

Oh and rage quitting in this is worse than SFIV. It rare to get above 3-0 before the opponent quits.

I still really enjoy, but yes I agree it has flaws.

- I hate the positive and negative affect the match cards (reduce fitness, reduce pace etc) these are the worse idea in the game, I don't use them myself but always end up with 2-4 of them in any packs I get.

- Contracts are a pain, I don't buy the packs with M$ points I only buy packs with the ingame currency meaning i'm always struggling for contracts.

- Training cards are great but 50% of the ones I get are for Keepers!

- The trading is now broken, to many people spend M$ points on cards and unless you get a superstar in your gold pack (Ronaldo, Torres) it's not worth putting up for trade anymore.

- Chemistry is a decent idea, but it's a screwy system - it's should increase the more you play a settled team - making chemistry work though players having favoured positions and having to keep the nationalities the same is dumb.

Other players quitting is a huge problem too.

Treebeard who do you play in the RM position from Brazil? I can't find any Brazilian who favours the 4-2-1-2 in that position - Playing David Bentley there at the minute!

I'll check tonight for you mate. I think it may have been Diego although I believe he is an attacking midfielder.
