hello smart tech people, just wonder what firewalls/virus checkers you'd recommend to use... prefer ones that i dont have to pay for :p

Grisoft do a nice free version of AVG anti-virus.

I don't bother with a firewall these days other than the one on my router.

i use zonealarm too.

my router is firewalled and nothing at all hits the pc so i only use zone alarm to control what goes *out* of my pc. everything nowadays trys desperately hard to grass you up or download updates. :)

never had a virus yet, so don't use anything. might look at the one mentioned now though. was kinda looking on and off for a good free one.

Yeah, I recommend Grisft's AVG, use the free edition for personal use, and the corporate one at work.

I'd advise against using Norton though; not only does it cost dollah, but it's annoying and somewhat crap. :p

AVG only. My routers firewall is enough from a firewall perspective.

If its not ill switch to Proventia Desktop since i can still get it for free

Im not smart or a techy but i use AVG antivirus and Zonealarm firewall (and also spybot for the adware and tracking cookies, thats a good one) and i dont ever have any problems, and its very easy to use

It's by Agnitum.

Always found it more powerful yet easier to use than Zone Alarm. Might just be me but I could never work out wtf was going on in ZA whereas I could instantly tell everything that was happening in Outpost.

i could never get on with ZA. as Ag says, it's a bit yo counter-intuative. I used to use Tiny Personal Firewall, but it went overcomplex after version 2.5.
