Remakes are usually awful but there is an exception here. Nothing particularly new but all done in a very satisfactory manner. Colin Farrell is a scary vampire, not seen a real scary one since Christopher lee when I was a kid but Farrell has just the right ballance of menace. He comes across as quite an amoral character in real life and this carries over well in to the role. Anton Yelchin was good (Chekov from the new Star Trek) and Imogen Poots ( Cracks, Bouquet of Barb Wire) and there is a funny, over-the-top performance from David Tennant as Peter Vincent Vampire Hunter. I really enjoyed this film and think its as good as the original and a decent addition to the horror collection.

I thought it was ok. The only character I liked more in the remake was Poots though, I thought Farrell was ok but lacked the sexiness and charm of the original, he just seemed more of the thug. I'm no fan of Tennant but I feel sorry for him here, his character is basically Russell Brand, that's it and it's easily the weakest thing in the film - nothing like the original Peter Vincent played to perfection by Roddy McDowel.

Like alot of remakes in the end it just feels abit unnecessary and hollow. But it's far from the worst remake, but maybe that is because the source material was so good in the first place.

Yeah and the fact that the same writer worked on both seems a big plus. I have seen Poots in a few things now and she is good. There is a little core of British actreses ( most of whom seemed to be in either Cracks, St Trinians or both) Who are playing Americans in films at the moment and they are all very good. The Actress who plays Dirty Girl and The Queen in the new Musketeers is another ( name escapes me). Have you seen Cracks? I really liked it. Had a nice dark, moodyness to it.

/edit And for the first 15 minutes of The Three Musketeers I thought I was playing Assasins Creed.
