No, not fantasing about leather clad vixens beaing on you with weird weapons ... although ........

Ive found an interesting set of rules which make D20 combat much quicker and more 'realistic' (more in a moment)

Ive always wanted to run a gladiator style game where the PCs simply fight all manner of things, and each other to survive ala Roman gladiator games.

My favourite setting - Kingdoms of Kalamar has such an avenure in the empire of Kalamar - which is a romanesque empire complete with its own gladatorial games. So im in the process of using the above rules to create a gladiator based campaign.

The idea - simply is to survive. The game will (I hope) work as follows:

All Players create a valid lvl 1 character - by valid it can be any core class and PC race from PHB, KoK PG and other similar products. You cannot select a race that provides a +CL to the character (i.e. drow are +2CL so in effect you would be a lvl 3 character)

Then al pcs are placed in a league table with 0 points.

You can then do one of several things:

1. opt to miss a 'round' - this results in no exp or points
2. Challenge a PC - yes PvP DnD stylie against one of your opponents. normally this wil lbe limited to a set place on the ladder of +/-3 places
3. Opt to fight a monster - this simply gives you points / Exp you can do a monster +/-3 CR levels from you (so at first level you can fight upto a CR3 monster
4. Challenge an NPC -(may happen depends) - Depending on howmany people fancy it there may be 'npc fillers in the table. you may challenge one of these up to +/- 4 places of you.

Points/EXP: Ive not worked out how many you will get but it will be based on your level, the creature/NPC/PC you defeat with a aim of '14 wins' gets you enough true EXp to level. You will get 1/2 win points for a draw split between both players.

Ladder:

AS mentioned challenge PCs +/- 3 levels of you. Win results in full points. Draw results in 1/2 points each.
Loss:

Challenge someone above you and loose - nothing happens
Someone challenges you / you challenge someone below you - you move to their place in the ladder and everyone else above goes up 1 place untill your position is filled.

If the player below you amasses 10% more points than your character you swap places. - this means theorectically you can fight monsters all the time and still advance in the ladder.

So what do people think?

The Grim n Gristly combat rules are here:

Obviosuly this is all off top of my head so the plan would be to write the rules, begin to play test the rules and see what we think.

So .... interested?

Count me in.
As a side issue, anyone know where a girl could get a copy of Camp Cart II and the dungeon add on?

Sounds interesting, I'd be up for it (though I'd prefer a Judge Dredd RPG *winge winge* ;) ).

That file looks fine to me, though haven't given much thought to the exp system, so can't give much feedback on that.

yeah, i'm up for that.
I havent read the rules, but i'll go do that now...
It would be good too if we could team up with people, and also have multiway fights.
