Google search hijacked

My google search is not working - I am pretty sure it's been hijacked. What is the best way of getting rid of this?
It takes me to the "the address is not valid" page now, before it took me to a completely unrelated site with many search options in a list.

could be worth checking in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

there's a file called hosts, open that with notepad and check it's contents below the # lines there should normally only be one entry reading:

127.0.0.1 localhost

if there's a google related entry in there may well be what's causing the problem.

would boot in safe mode with networking if you can and download rkill and malwarebytes and give them a run, see if they turn up anything.

I have these 2 lines but nothing google related. I'll have a look at rkill tomorrow (or later today, given the time) :)

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

I am getting redirected every time now, in IE and also in Chrome. I'll check malwarebytes also today
