Grey Knights

I've been pretty busy recently with work but still managed to crank out a few new figures despite that. I was just rubbish at setting up the lightbox to take pictures of them until now. So this is what I've been up to recently.

I have a new army project that I've been working on and off with for the past few months; Warhammer 40k Grey Knights. So far there's not a lot that's finished but I have quite a few bits that are half-complete including a character and a Stormraven gunship. In between getting ready for beta and various other distractions I've managed to finish a Terminator squad and a Razorback tank however.

WHen I started painting these guys I wanted to try out some new techniques and really make them pop. I didn't want to settle for simply painting them as flat metal but I also knew I'd never be able to get a complete army done in a non-metallic metal style. Eventually I came up with a compromise, I'd try and paint them using a 'true-metallic metal' technique that borrows the contrasts from NMM but uses actual metallic paints as a base. I was also experimenting with an airbrush that I'd got as a birthday present. New army, new painting technique and equipment I've never used before - what could go wrong?

Well as it happened practically everything did. I really messed the Terminators up and the Razorback took a lot of rescuing. I'm really not happy with the way that either turned out but I got them finished despite that and will explore different ways of getting the result I want on future units.

Amazing. I've always liked the idea of Grey Knights as a human force and these make me want to run out and buy some even though I'm pants at painting and would never get them finished.

Love the bases as well.

Looks awesome :D

I'm having to get back into this, since my g/f is applying for a job in our local one (lol), I'm assuming she'll probably get the job on the count that she's a girl. I may require tips lol :p

I just about to manage dealing with her in the first place, if its anything like any other game, she'll finally accept I'm better after 5-10 straight defeats.

But generally painting and stuff, I've been looking at buypainted and alot of stuff, they make it look easy.. which generally means I'll claw my eyeballs out after 1 hour of failing to even have them in a state thats paintable :D

Checked out www.buypainted.com and there are some very nice tutorials on there. Might have a go at a couple of bases this weekend when I get a free day from the young'n :)
Really shouldn't start getting back into this though!

Dont get me started on Grey Knights.

They are a nice fluff army but as has been said broken.

It anoys me that they stripped all the fun and options from the CSM codex then make armies that powers that negate the small advantages they have left and have rules that outfight them and have no disadvantages, ie codex GK, BA /sigh

Never going to happen but id kill for Codex: Deathguard

its this power creep i think that has ultimately put me off 40K.

i prefer FOW because, whilst im sure there is power creep of sorts it tries to mirror real world in terms of overall power of vehicles / people etc and becomes more about tactics than flavour of the month codex choices.

i'm on hordes/warhmachine, they bring out a vew version of the rules, all teh army faction have new books in 6 months, then expansion books come out which include ever army.
