\if you want fun dude, roll up a blademaster. guardians are more of a 'stand in the middle and not die' than 'sprint around like a lunatic trying desperately not to die whilst demolising everything in your path'.

Of the 4 classes i've tried it's by far the most fun, and challenging, and come highly reccomended. plus 2 swords > sword + board, every time :D

Hmmm, that sounds like a "need more RAM and a fast connection" character to me. Mighte try on single player though, for kicks.

Anyone have any ideas on Engineer builds as yet? I'm still level 1 and feel the need to invest as much as possible in bots (to compensate for connection, RAM issue).

I'm playing an engineer and putting it all into bots, but also have a couple of uber sniper rifles that can knock down most things in a couple of shots. Bosses take a bit longer :) Also have a good machine gun for those moments when you need to run in and mix it with summoner zombies.

One point wonders to get as soon as you can :

Repair Drone (take this higher when you can - get it to 5 sec recast)

Beacon

Escape

Molotov assault

Phase Grenade (this sticks soon as it lands so you can cast it at your feet etc)

I didn't take the last two for a while, but they work great. You can also take Concussive Crash with them.

AE Combo of dewm

1. Concussive crash - AE stuns enemies

2. Cast Molotov - AE ignites and burns Mobs

3. Phase Grenade - AE phases enemies so they take double damage (due to delay in Molotov landing you cast 2 before 3 and they land at the same time)

Bots and Drones keep the stats they have the first time you cast them (this resets when you log). So you can keep weapons with added skills on switch, just for when you cast them. I have a pair of pistols with a combined +4 to Rocket Bot on F3 and +4 to Armor Retrofit for the Drone on F2. Make sure to switch to them the first time you cast them and they keep those bonses, even if they die and you recast them without the weapon bonuses equipped.

You can only have two bots out, but they CAN be from the same skill line - eg you can have a Rocket Bot and a Bomber Bot out, even though they are in the same skill line.

If I'm understanding this right, I can have bots out and also take a repair drone to heal them and me?
I was going to head exclusively down the bot tree, but the repair drone sounds handy.

I think that just repairs your drone, to keep him as a meat shield so the bots can muller stuff before the nasties arrive in your face, so to speak.

No, the drone heal is an AE, but the range on it isn't great.

I've only tried it with a couple of points in it, but I'm droppping it on my new Eng. Its not fast, its not a big heal and you have to be close to it for it to work. It tends to wander off soon as you have cast it so most of the time you miss the heal. Also seems to stop if it gets into combat.

Best use for me was a top up for heals when there are no mobs about, but its wasted points, until they work on it.

Yes, you can have the drone and 2 bots. The drone is great for tanking and damage. Be aware of the following :

http://forums.hellgatelondon.com/showthread.php?t=34839

The attack values from your swords and guns stack on the bot.

If you put a sword on the bot, you will notice that he virtually stops shooting. Thus, it may seem like a waste to put a gun on him.

Also his AI improves considerably as he runs straight at enemies, and spinning his little sword around.

Now put a weapon on the bot. In my case i put a guardian/beserker spectral grenade launcher, which has modest splash damage, and very high phase, stun, and interreupt attack values. Now every time bot spins his sword, he phases targets and stuns them. Morever, he doesn't just phase/shock/interrupt the target he's hitting, he does this to other enemies in very close proximity. The reason for this is because the weapon i equipped on him - the grenade launcher - has splash damage, which is applied through the sword, rather than the gun now. (remember bot stops using his gun if he can melee).

Now, for even more splash damage, make sure to equip on the bot a sword that deals splash damage. Given the build I described above a good physical or flame splash damage would be best. Unfortunately these splash-damage swords are a little slower than direct damage swords, but now you got some strong area affects on your bot - phasing, shocking, interrupting, and stunning or igniting. With moderately strong area affect damage. The melee-range area effect phasing, not even bomber bot can match, and combined with melee-range area affect shock, stun, interrupt - your bots tanking abilities versus the swarm increase significantly. Combined with training / gear to create a high armor class for your bot, he becomes a very potent tank.

Before anyone says this is overpowered. Remember 3 things. First, your bot generally does not use his gun in combat with a sword attached, unless he cannot reach the mob - thus this seems a pretty good tradeoff for losing one weapon. Second, to equip a good level appropriate gun and sword, and armor on you bot requires a large number of attribute points, which require's using up skill points. Third, mods equipped to weapons of even PC players affect both weapons.

With the drone, don't rush into assigning stats just for the latest gun you've found. The stat assignment is permanent and later you will want to fit armour, a gun and a sword to it.

Thanks for the info Flight.

I take it you mean drones when you talk about the 'bots' with swords?
Also I can never see any of the hellgate forum links for some reason. Keeps asking me ina loop forever for account name and pass....sigh.

Cheers Flight, I've been plying skill points into the drone so far but have yet to get up high enough to fit a weapon. Need to find summit suitably nasty for then :)
