How to get DH gear?

Maybe I am missing something. I am still duoing my DH with my friend's Witch Doctor and we have now hit Act 2 and Level 20. Most of our gear is level 8-12, with maybe 2-3 pieces of level 15 gear. What are we doing wrong?

I checked the AH, but every time I tried to make a bid, between realising the item was an upgrade and typing in the bid I had been outbit by 500-1000 Gold. I only have 20,000 Gold, too. My weapon (1 handed Crossbow) is my major problem, it's level 10.

Also, if someone has some experience with Demon Hunters, my surviveability seems fairly low atm, so I am using one 1 hander and a Shield. That has not helped my durability much. ;) Is it smarter to fight with 2 1handed Crossbows?

I hope you will be able to help me. :)

I only play HC, the AH is much more stable in HC. But when going on the AH I only go for buyouts. So literally list all weapons you want, for example 1 handers, maybe specify that you want a dex modifier on there too, and then list by buyout (click the buyout column twice) and it'll have the cheapest first. See if you can get an upgrade that way.

Personally I've found that the 1 handed crossbows don't really drop that early on, so I'd go for a 2 hander. And for surviveability, I wouldn't worry about it too much in normal, what catches you by surprise and kills you normally, a shield probably wont stop anyway, you shouldn't really be getting hit by melee on a DH :)

Hi,

Yep, I'd recommend buyouts too. Put in a level range to get items as close to your level as possible. Mind you I'm an impatient kind of a guy and can't be doing with this waiting malarky..

Cheers

Dara - i might have some lvl 15 - 20 1hand Xbows that you could have. Just need to grab me next time im online.

I went for an AH upgrade on the DH - it was the only way i was going to beat Diablo and after splurging around 125K on the AH I got my DPS in the 450 - 500 range which I was happy with.

As others have pointed out i'd keep as lookout for any cheap buyout prices with decent stats, or ones with hardly any time left, which have only had a low bid so far.

With weapons the main thing i'd look out for is a decent dps, as that is the most important thing, obviously if the other bonus stats are good, then all the better, and remember if there's a gem slot u can always improve the dps a bit.

I'd dump the shield, as it decreases your possible damage output and means the mobs are more likely to reach u before u kill them, so either use a 2h bow and a quiver with decent stats, or 2 x 1h bows.

Well, my cash reserves are very low, but I managed to get some upgrade from the AH. What I essentially did was check for stuff that only runs for another 4-6 hours, is still in the affordable range and a good upgrade. I managed to get 3 items for 3500 Gold that way. If I check the AH in the morning and evening, I should be able to keep relatively up to date. :)

Zed, thanks for the offer, but I got 2 1handed Crossbows level 22 from the AH for 2000 Gold in all. :)

Also thanks for the advice on dumping the shield. I did that and got lucky on the AH with 5 items, so I now have double the HP I used to have (almost 3300 atm) and have four times the dps.

I tend to search for items with Dex and Vita and bid on one item per slot that is an upgrade. I currently have 6 items I am bidding for that will run out overnight. That should improve my gear a good bit.

I actually do end up in melee quite often. The WD I duo with currently has 900 HP, so I tend to take point atm. I do not kite, but just stand and fight, to draw them away from him. I am easily able to blow any single mob up before they reach me, but they usually come in swarms. Purple mobs die reasonably quickly, too.

Now I just need to get more gems so I can upgrade all that new gear. :) Too bad the AH does not seem to work for them.

Don't expect to be able to do that in nightmare mode, you both need to learn how to kite, as WD and DH are both very squishy.

This is the build I am currently using:

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#WZYjSQ!Yb!aZZ

Bear in mind I am only level 23, so there are still a lot of options I am missing. I went for straight out area effect damage with my primary attack as most mobs come in waves when you play with someone else. For bosses, I burn them down with my rightclick for the most part.

I got a few more items since my last post, so I am currently clocking in at 400 dps and 4900 HP at level 23. I only need three more items to be fulled kitted out with level appropriate rares.

Chakrams for DHs are way overpowered, so use them most of the time on the right mouse button for when lots of mobs, plus they travel a long way in front of u.

Solo i'd agree. iv'e taken to (early Act2 only!) using entangling shot + Rapid fire.
Group though, they are ace, especially if you have a "tank".

At your level double chakrams spammed in front of u will wipe out big groups of mobs in seconds if u have a half decent dps.
