January: Static Group Tuesdays

Zed

Rogue Chimp
Once Soronar is ready to rejoin us we are going to kick off the static group on a tuesday evening.

Rules of the static group:

Same character
No twinking. Loot must be aquired through quests or via AH with funds accumulated yourself.
Hirelings permitted to fill out group (note i believe you can only have 2 hirelings in a group at any time)

Need to play through the shipwreck and initial quest to get to korthos.

We will kick off around 7:45 and play until we've had enough. Likely 10 - 10:30

If your interested sign up with a class you want to play.

Zed: Cleric or Sorceror
Sorontar: Rogue or Fighter
Jett: Fighter
Readon: Monk
Septian: Paladin, Monk, Ranger
Omzig: Cleric or Bard
Legs: Cleric

I managed to pick up some favour on Arkain by doing the Korthos quests, not a lot but a little towards the 1750 favour total for 32 point builds. I'll try and PUG a little in Gianthold between Xmas and New Year to knock off the remainder (although I have failed to spot a group open to lvl15-16 recently).

In the static group I'd probably play either a rogue(trapsmith) or fighter (intimidate).

if i can get one during XMAs and new year ill join you and we can see about that last bit of favour.

Damn fine idea Zed.

I'll rehash Jett and get him to Korthos.

Edit: When are we kicking this off peeps? New Year?

Also still needing a small chunk of favour to hit the magic 1750, hopefully shouldnt take to long to get it. As for what i'd play in the new group... At this point i'd say i'd try the monk out.

I'm quite willing to make a Rogue, Monk, Ranger or Paladin :) I have a level 3 monk and paladin at the moment, but wouldnt mind rerolling anyone, as it's not like ive got that far tbh :)

Omzig

MMG Lurker
If there still a spot left I wouldnt mind joining.

Prob start a D.elf - for the extra stats, and choose cleric or Bard (sword/backup heal)

Legs

Full of PvP Goodness
this is starting new characters just for the use in this group once a week?

if So i could be tempted to start my healer again but will be the basic guy as i havent played enough to open anything other than the Drow

Just remade "Septien" Level 1 Paladin. :)
Using the er. 1st Default build, seemed the best group wise, I'm afraid i'm not really up on D&D Specs anymore :)

And I've not even opened Drow, Legs mate.. There was a problem with my account ages ago when the servers merged, lost some high"er" level characters as they had to replace my older characters with the lower level ones they had saved or something :(

Just a reminder: this is new characters for Tuesday evening only.

No twinking. you use what you find or can buy from the AH. Everyone needs to be in korthos (past first intro quest) by next tuesday evening.

So Gianthold is looking a waste of time waiting although Zed and I managed to knock off one of the easier quests with the help of hirelings. May have to look outside GH at higher level quests OR I noticed I still have some Threnal on normal and also the Vault of Night series on normal.

A quick newbie question peeps...

My fighter has high Str, Dex and Con..but Int, Wis and Cha are all 8's..a bit gimped?

hmm.. maybe I should have rolled a more balanced/rounded toon.

What type of fighter are you aiming for?

If you are aiming for High AC intimidate based fighter who controls the mobs so the high DPS guys can have a field day then-

  • You will need Combat Expertise which has a requirement of 13 Int, so aim for having 14 for the extra Skill points
  • Look at the Dex you want to aim at in the end to work out your starting Dex (Example- If you just plan on Mithral Plate then your max Dex Bonus is going to end up at +3 which you will reach by starting on 12 Dex and having a +4 Dex item. If on the other hand you are going to use the fighter enhancements to to add 2 to your Max Dex in armour then you will need to probably start at 14)
  • You don't want too big a negative on your Cha although -1 should be fine for intimidate as it can be mitigated with feats. If you plan on using UMD though you may want to try and start at 10
  • You will need to take ranks in Balance as you are no use on your arse
  • Think about human as an option for the extra feat, skill point and enhancement skill boost etc
  • Think about any planned multi-class and enhancements you can get (If you take say 2 levels of rogue to max UMD you get evasion and also the enhancement for +1 Dex (IIRC). Add the +1 Dex you can get for human and it reduces your starting stat req for the same end result- or increases your potential Max)
  • Do you plan to use a Tower Shield in the build (I recommend it), this is another limiting factor for your Max Dex.
  • Don't forget Dodge feat requires 13 Dex

Personally on a 28 pt build that was going pure fighter I'd probably start with something like

Bah, You think I should try spec my Paladin a bit better rather than using a default then mate? I could remake him again easy, as i've done nowt :)

Wanted to be a sword/shield spec, with a decient turn capability etc.
Would it be worth taking the enhancement that gives +1 to longswords? or is it a waste of 2 points?

Cheers
Sept.

Personally for a Paladin I'd forget turning. Clerics fail to turn at higher levels even when fully spec'd for it. Paladins are at even more of a disadvantage with the missing turning levels. I'd look at the enhancements for Paladins and Religions that allow Paladins to do funky stuff with their turns which makes them kind of useful.

Possibly something like this (I think items count towards your requirements for casting spells - check that though - although not for feats obviously) so the max Wis you will need should be covered by starting with 10 and adding equipment. The Force of Personality feat adds your Cha Mod to Will Saves instead of Wis and as Paladain enhancements increase Cha it's win win IMO.
