Late to the Party: Fallout 3

I just ordered the Game of the Year edition of Fallout 3, anything I need to know before I start (without reading a FAQ that spoils bits) ?

My plan is for a stealthy guy who when stealth fails (or his ammo supply is low) gets all Ninja on there ass ! i.e do lots of head shots and when they run in to duff me up I can still look after myself

I've got a full Saturday and Sunday to play, so hoping to get some distance into things

It does come with I think 5 addons, or expansions, or whatever they are called, so I'm sure I won't run out of things to be doing, if though it's worth heading to certain areas first let me know, or if any of the expansions are lower levels. Else I'll be having a merry old time crawling around the desert shooting everyone I see ..... Hmmm assuming there is a good/evil system is it easy to distinguish good/evil through the scope of a sniper rifle ? :)

The good/evil bit only comes in usually during dialogue choices, so if it looks dodgy...shoot!

Choose your weapon type and put points into that...helps alot.

You can just wander and ignore the main story quite a bit, but sooner or later you end up doing those missions to get places to open up a bit more to you.

Great game, you should enjoy :)

I got myself fallout new vegas about 2 weeks ago after a guy at work used to bang on about it, wish he's told me sooner, it's amazing.

I know people that have put a silly amount of hours into it and haven't completed it (like a 100 plus hours). These type of games are supposed to be buggy so make lots of save points.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are both great, if you're getting the expansions you have to enable them or something before they become active - it might be best to just play the main game through first and enable the additional content later on..... the UFO add on is quite good and gives you some funky weapons - I kind of miss heading back to my shack in megaton - might have to give this game another go :)

Well that was alot of fun :) Had probably now 4 or 5 run throughs to level 4 and finally happy to have settled on a build/type I like, my skills already seem pretty good, pick locking I can't seem to get the hang of, hacking I was even worse at, but forcing the lock with lock picking works often enough for me :)

Regarding repair skills am I better off waiting till something gets low before repairing it, or little and often mean something lasts longer ?

Only thing I still feel I'm missing is a long range rifle as I still generally stick with the 10mm I left the vault with, and the Armoury always seems closed :(

One last thing, is your house safe, i.e if I put stuff in it will it be there when I get back ? I only ask as on one play through I broke into someone's house, stole everything and then left and no mention was ever made of someone finding there house was totally ransacked.

My current character though is a nice guy, saved the sheriff, defused the bomb, and would quite like the comic book and BB gun his dad gave him to be safe in his house.

I repair to the max, as I think (been a while since I played) that the better the state of the gun etc, the more damage etc you can do.

Stuff placed in lockers in your house are safe.

Does that mean stuff on the shelves isn't safe ?

I'm pondering buying another 10mm gun to repair the other one with, or will I start finding more weapons the more I explore ? The furthest I've gone is to the shopping mart for Moira's quest

No need to buy guns...lots drop. Just use those to repair your own stuff or ur to repair and use them whatever is best.

I honestly can't remember if stuff on shelves is safe. I would think so, as in no one will steal it, but I had always dumped stuff in lockers, but for no reason other than I had lockers. Don't think items de-spawn if that's what ur thinking.

I've not lost stuff on shelves as yet and I think that some of the crap I've just dumped on the floor sticks around as well. Would always stick stuff you want to keep in a proper drawer or cabinet though to be on the safe side.
