Lou Reed R.I.P.

Another great gone. Leaves a huge legacy though, the amount of bands and artists who cite him as an influence. I "found him" around the time of "Walk on the wildside" - through mentions of him by Bowie and Roxy Music (who were very Velvet Underground influenced early on.). Got in to the Velvets and Floyd and Peter Green all around the same time, heady days!

I dunno. Not a big fan of the NY rock scene myself. His influence is undeniable across a multitude of bands, but it's just not my thing (Transformer album being the exception).

I did like the Velvet Undeground, esprcially the Banana album, as much for Nico's deep Germanic Icequeen voice as anything else. I thought the "Drone" music stuff they were experimenting with and Cales obsession with John Cage was interesting as well. I have/had all the albums and a good few of his solo ones, but he/they wouldnt realy figure in my top ten. Just feels like another one of the jigsaw pieces that locked together to form my yoof has fallen uner the table.
