Massive update tomorrow (14/06). Loads of really good stuff going in. New adventure pack, trade skills majorly changed (no sub component combines), new betrayal at any lvl system going live (Exile), possibly capes ?

LU24 one of many posts on it

Major nerfage for all things stun and control though.

Prolly major downtime while they put it live.

Oh best hope I can nip on quickly tonight and get a little fix before the apri-patch hell then :)

I thought that crafting change had already happened infact, so nice to see it hadn't cos my crafting was confusing me :) And nice to be able to use any crafting areas supposedly as well, save me such a trek to get to my crafting guilds area.

Hmm need to get my crafting to level 10 to see some of these improvements it seems, it's a pain getting the bits I need to get to level 10 though already

Your opinion is worthless....
Yup will be switching to Exile with my guild on Nagafen, and then generally killing Q's Fp's and Exile.... w00t !!

If you do the quests in the trade skill instance, to make the nine items, it gets you to lvl 10 very quickly and takes very few resources. Plus you get the +1 to all trade skills vest for doing them and the ten slot harvesting bag, as well as the first nine recipe books.

Do it today as the recipe books the items are in are borked atm apres patch.

Major changes to harvesting going in also

Have a guide for it at all kicking around Flight ? I went to a trainer, got asked to make a tea (which is a level 3 item) and I'm only level 2 and it seems to be a slog to get the resources I need to get up to level 3. I'm gathering everything I see in the off-chance and the only thing I can use to level on seems to be tin ore as I can't find the other basic components or probably more likely just don't know where to go to get them.

I even looking on the market hoping someone had some components kicking around with no joy :/

It is fair to say though so far I've only been into Baubleshire, The place with the ruined castle off baubleshire (with badgers, spiders, rock and firey guards at the doors of the castle), and a zone I had to go to, to deliver some beer (and where I joined a crafting school/guild/whatever as I couldn't find one to join in Baubleshire despite checking out what I thought was everything in the zone)

P.S EQ2 Maps ROCKS ! Can't get on with anything but the standard SOE UI but the EQ2 maps downloader is great. The other UI's may be good but I think I'd need a PC upgrade as my PC already struggles enough with EQ2.

Crafting

Not sure I'm doing any crafting right either.
Seems I'm Artisian lvl 9, with just farting around making the odd item seeing how it works.
The only crafting quest I got I re-took as the first one told me to catch some fish? and the second now says to collect some vanilla? This is after I did the island crafting quest to get the book. Is this part of the main crafting quest that you mentioned Flight? (In Freeport btw)
Got a few crafting guides, but still not convinced I'm in the right place etc.

Have to say, I am finding this MMO good fun, seems huge.....exploring Freeport right now to try figure my way around. :)

One thing I have read is at level's 9, your XP is capped (but still counted) until you speak to your trainer again, so you'll stay capped at 9 until you speak to them, at which point the next item you'll make you will suddenly get all the XP you had stored up back.

How do you fish then btw ? cos one of my reciepes needs fish and since leaving the island I've not seen any fish in the water and not bothered with fishing as yet.

Fish you find in preetty much any pools of water. Qeynos has some in caves, oakmyst forest and that noob zone off the wood elf starting area (shows I am freeport based). Freeport has sunken city only for noob areas.

So to fish do I dive in the water and harvest the swimming fish ? I know I didn't see any in baubleshire, oh there were some in the place with the castle on the beach now thinking about it.

Thats a bug. Make two items (food are easiest eg black coffee or sunfish rolls) will get you to lvl 3. Getting the resources you need for the quests is very easy; you really dont need a lot of anything. Make a stack of each kind of oil/wash/etc at the chemistry table with roots etc before you start them, saves a lot of running around.

Get pelts from trapping animal dens, roots are obvious, you dont need any fish, the white tea leaf is the only cooking item you need.

The only tricky thing is you need to make an isonoid reagent at the chemistry table ..... to get the isonoid by product to make the vial at the jewellers table ... to make the vengeance of the fallen poison at the chem table (thats one of the items you need to make nearer the end of the quests).

You only need 20 harvesting to be able to harvest in antonica/commonlands, thats from lvl 10 on. Once you have done the starter quests we are discussing I wouldn't bother doing any more harvesting until you get to there. I'd suggest maxing fishing before you leave the starter isle and get the others to 20. Oakmyst is by far the best zone for harvesting the bits you need for the starter quests; will take you 5 minutes max.

You only need something like 20 roots, 4 tin, a half dozen pelts from traps. a half dozen wood etc. If you have the white tea leaf thats the only thing that isnt really easy to get.

Max xp you can gather is one more level's worth. Then head to the docks in Qeynos, or the trade skill association in West Freeport, evil side.

Fishing can be a pita to keep levelled. Far easier on the starter isle and in Oakmyst than anywhere else. You just click on the shoals of fish, not the attackable mob fish, like any other harvesting node.

I'll head to Oakmyst then and gather some more bits, but I sounds like I have the basic bits already, only question is where I get coffee beans ? (I only thought of fishing for the sunfish to make the rolls as well if that makes sense)

Sorry for sounding dumb but so far my experience with crafting is simply gathering everything I can see and struggling to find a place to craft :)

The starter quests then would I be better hitting Oakmyst gathering a pile of things, then simply going to the trainer/crafting place and doing the complete quest line in one hit (I'm guessing that is what you mean) ?

And when you say wood, so far I have like 3 or 4 different wood types, does that matter ? And does pelt quality matter ?

There is only one type of wood each 'tier', excluding rares (eg Tier 1 lvl 1-10 starter area , Tier 2 10-19 Antonica/Commonlands, Tier 3 20- Nektulos/Thundering Steppes). That is what you get when you use the Foresting skill, when you see yourself chopping with an axe. This is basically the material for carpenters and woodcrafting. Tier one is elm, two is maple and three is ash.

There are small root looking items with wood in the title (eg birchwood), but those are used for poisons.

There are not nearly as many different types of harvestables as it immediately appears. It is confounded by there being about 8 different types of food harvestable from bushes and a few different fish - these are only used for Provisioner(food and drink). Then there are approx the same amount of harvestables from Fungi - used for Poisons and potions.

For the starter quests and the majority of crafting, you dont need to touch the fungi or shrubs. Leaving those aside there are probably no more than ten different harvestables for all the other trade skills (arbitary number).

The main useage are :

i) wood (only one harvestable from logs/Foresting).

ii) pelts from traps (Sullied low quality are tier one - doesnt matter what mob type; Sullied average quality are tier 2). You cant used mob drops for these; those are called damaged - destroy or sell those; unfortunately traps give meat for food also. Again, you cant use mob dropped meat for crafting. Can be confusing as the6y have exactly the same name as meat from traps - eg crab meat can be harvested or dropped from mob - two different items, with exactly the same name, but the mob dropped cant be used in crafting.

iii) Mining has two different types of nodes per tier, giving 4 items. A metal, a gemstone, loam for making scout skill uggrades by a Jeweller and something else I forget.

iv) roots, which are used in nearly everything. Only 1 type each tier from the root node types.

So there you go. Only 7 different harvestable types for 90% of all crafting and for the starter quests (except the white tea leaf).

Two asides :

1) If you are in it to make money just sell the harvested materials. You can make huge money fast doing this. The white tea leaves sell for 1g and stuff like tin and all the other stuff sells for 25s. Great start for a new player.

2) I mentioned Jewellers make the Scout class upgrades. Alchemists make the fighter class upgrades and Sage makes the healer and mage upgrades. The vast majority dont sell as the adepts are usually cheaper than the cost of the materials to make the spell upgrades.
