Great game and shows why Ferguson went out and got Owen. Top class pass from Giggs and a classy finish from the supposedly washed up has been Owen.

I don't usually like seeing United win but seeing any side with that cunt Bellamy on it lose is always pleasing :D

The classic shot was after Owen scored (as Hughes was fuming at the time), and Fergie was laughing with the 4th official. Hughes was in the foreground of the shot and he looked over and his face was like thunder .... oh how I laughed :D

Hughes has got sod all to whinge about regarding the extra time played. 1 minute added on for the goal, 30 seconds added on for the substitution and the 4 minutes extra time is a minimum, not a maximum, so he should STFU about where the additional time came from.

If it had been a 97th minute goal, like it has been before at OT, then yes, he could moan away. Utd pissed on City in the 2nd half and would have won anyway if it wasn't for Ferditwat and Foster fucking up royally for Citys 3rd goal.

Yeah MotD did a nice breakdown of it last night, added time minimum was something like 5:26 and Owen scored at 5:27 so it was there or thereabouts.

Nice camera in the crowd, gets the horrible welsh cnut walking over to the guy whilst he was restrained as well.

The only thing Hughes can say about added time is there wasn't enough as they didn't get 1 minute added on after Man Utd scored to try and get an equaliser :D

Look at it this way, if that mercenary little turncoat **** hadn't have scored then we could have had our first midnight finish...

Mercenary little turncoat cunt? Good grief. I thought you were talking about Adebayour or Bellamy or someone else but then I realised you were talking about Mickey Owen.

He didn't really feel that wanted at Liverpool before he left for Madrid so I'd hardly call him a mercenary or a turncoat. He didn't get enough first team football at Real, so when he left there he wanted to try and go back to Liverpool but they didn't want him. Then he stupidly listened to Shearer and went to Fuckedcastle.

I don't blame him for joining United at all and he's got contract stipulations about how much he plays to get the full value of his contract.

I love the way football supporters get so antsy about people playing for another team. If you go and work for another rival company for more money, would you not describe it as a good career move?

Mickey has always put country before club, and the way he left Liverpool was much like McMoneyman (who was annoyed Liverpool were prepared to listen to an offer for him)and that is what wrangles us up here. If he'd done what Keegan did, then nobody would be worried. The manager (I am no fan of Benitez at the best of times) wanted him to stay but he refused, thinking the grass was greener in Madrid. He did nothing there, nobody wanted him so he ended up at Newcastle. Liverpool were never interested in him once he left, and the vast majority of fans did not want him back anyway. They have had some dross in the meantime though...

Fergie bought Mickey mainly because he was shafted by Madrid, every time he went in for a player Madrid bought him. Mickey will always know where the goal is and will score a few, and Fergie did good business there. Mickey could have played every week, become a hero at Hull or Stoke (and Stoke are a pretty useful side) but warming the bench at United? Bellamy, Adebayor, Diouf ... no comment on chaps like that.

Re the last question - depends what the job is, the location and who I would be working alongside. But I am not motivated by money, I'm an archaeologist after all ...

Fair enough although I will state that 18 goals from the bench at Madrid in a single season wasn't doing 'nothing', especially for someone in their 1st season. He was hugely under-used at Madrid.

I can see him starting games for United soon. He's a damn sight more likely to score than Berbatwat at the moment. People seem to forget he's only 29.

Bit strong on the basis of one goal, when he only came on for the last 15 minutes. He's hardly played this term, when he has played has squandered numerous chances and in his one outing at Wolves he was dire.

From European Footballer of the Year to fourth choice at the Mancs. Good luck to him.

You were right, he started tonight in the CL.

Looked poor and off injured after 20 minutes, with Capello watching.

I will never understand why some Liverpool fans hate Owen. Club top scorer every season he played for them with a record of more than 1 goal in every 2 games and one of the reasons he's injury prone is because Liverpool played him way to much as a youngster! Rafa came in a didn't want him so he moved on, Liverpool got 8 Million and Arthur Nunez (lol).
This he was more interested in his Country than his club is frankly stupid - what do you think Ferdnando 'Heidi' Torres would prefer more? Liverpool to win the Prem or to be playing in the World Cup winning Spanish team next year...?

I'd say he looked as "fine" as the rest of the team until it was evident he had tweaked something (maybe his groin from training)and he still tried to play on. Having said that United were piss poor so for Owen to "look poor" is hardly suprising is it.

Although I think he's one of the more bearable footballers, he is a walking injury. Liverpool were good against Fiorentina :p

Benitez is on another planet sometimes. Lucas is shit and Gerrard should have been in midfield with Benayoun supporting Torres. Any idiot could see that but apparently Benitez isn't just any idiot.

I couldn't agree more with Ky here. When Benitez screws things up, he does it in a manner no other manager could inagine. Lucas is quite frankly abysmal, and he's actually having a good season. I'd ship Aurelio out also, but on the night too many players did not turn up, including Stevie, and that left the forwards isolated. Hopefully the kick up the jacksie they deserve, Chelsea will suffer and my fantasy league team will score a few points :)

See my reply above - while the fans never treated him in the same way they did Rush or Keegan or Fowler, it's the way he left that leaves a bad taste. Rafa tried to get him to sign a contract (remember it was the same time Stevie nearly signed for Chelsea, and he went to visit the two of them personally while they were on England duty), and Mickey dilly dallied for quite a while without saying one thing or another. At the start of the season, he should have said he'd go at the end of the season, but would play his best, like Keegan did. An opportunity missed to be a legend. Arthur "Mr Bean" Nunez... what a player...

Personally, I support my club, and have never been too bothered about England.

I thought the Gerrard to Chelsea was the season after. I recall it was one of the big talking points in the leadup to the Champions League final vs Milan (I remenber him being interviewed on the pitch after the game about 'is he really going to leave' - which was the conclusion to Rafa's first season, Owen had already left at the start of that season.

You 're right there - I know there were 2 summers in a row Gerrard was possibly moving on, the second one was the close call (2005) but in 2004 both players had to be persuaded to sign new contracts. Crikey, time flies...

Whisky Nose on yesterdays ref :

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11667_5605950,00.html

Sir Alex Ferguson has hit out at referee Alan Wiley, accusing the Staffordshire official of "not being fit enough" to do his job.

Wiley, the fourth official for last month's controversial Manchester derby, was in charge at Old Trafford on Saturday as an injury-time own-goal from Anton Ferdinand salvaged United a point against Sunderland in a 2-2 draw.

Ferguson claimed Wiley had not played the correct amount of added time because he had failed to add on an additional minute to the four already signalled once United scored.
Disappointed
"I was disappointed with the referee," said Ferguson.

"He didn't add on any time for the goal. He played four minutes and two seconds.

"He was also walking up the pitch for the second goal needing a rest. He was not fit enough for a game of that standard.

"The pace of the game demanded a referee who was fit. He was not fit. It is an indictment of our game.

"You see referees abroad who are as fit as butcher's dogs. We have some who are fit. He wasn't fit.

"He was taking 30 seconds to book a player. He was needing a rest. It was ridiculous."

If anyone else came out with this they'd be in huge bother. Given the rise in awareness and multiple people citing it the FA might just take action this time.

Though it will probably be to censure Wiley, put him on a fitness program and ban him from reffing any MU matches for a while.
