Messenger Service Pop Ups

these things started appearing on my screen tonight... currently trying to get them to go away.

Anyone know the best way to get rid of these?

hmm can't seem to make them disappear permanently, run spybot and virus checker with no results, disabled the messenger service but doesnt seem to be a permanent cure.

need some advice... any ideas?

uh, disabling messenger service should stop them, since thats the only way they can get at you... also, make sure you have a firewall. zone alarm stops them all i think.

If you have a firewall, you can block teh port that messanger uses. Dont know what number it is off hand.

Stop it running in msconfig... also stop it running in the start-up tab and that way you should be able to turn it off when you want to.

I assume it's the messenger service rather than msn/windows messenger you're talking about.

If you've turned it off before you've prolly already done this bit, but nm:

Right click My Comp --> Manage --> Services & Applications --> Services

Find "Messenger" in the list

Hit stop button at the top to turn it off for now.

You might not have done this bit if you still have issues:

Still at "messenger" in services list

Right Click --> Properties

"Log On" Tab

Hardware Profile Box
Default is Profile 1. May be more though. For each of these disable the service.

This will prevent the service being started up when you switch on.

Thanks for the advice....
not sure where these things have sprung up from... never had them before last night
