well thank god, i for one have been unable to use the internet since i heard of these security holes. no wait...thats not right... :p
was anything actually created to exploit these holes yet even? from what i've read, it seems they were found, reported to the firefox people, but not actually used yet at all by any malicious code....

I use FF rather than IE not because I think it's more secure but because I think it's a better browser. Obviously I wouldn't use it if it was leakier than a sieve, but for me the features and convenience in FF are way above anything that IE can offer at the mo. Even if it was identical to IE in every other way, tabbed browsing alone would get me to change. For the same reason I use Thunderbird rather than OE. The only problems I have with FF are when I meet a page that is written specifically for IE and has some flashy thing that won't work in FF. Luckily there is a 'show this page in IE' context menu item (available as an extension) which makes it easy and convenient for me to get around that.

To be honest I think FF is a cracking bit of software although I don't use it any more (did I mention Maxthon recently? I did? Ok i'll shut up), it's not perfect tho.

The likes of FF, Opera and the whole open source thing can only drive companies like Microsoft, Apple, Sun etc to innovate and produce better software which is a good thing. I just think the hype gets over done a little. No software is ever going to be 100% bullet proof, but market share is a big part of the perceived security. Look at phones, the worms etc doing the rounds have been for Symbian, Nokia, Palm based phones tec because they have a huge share of the market. MS smartphones haven't been hit even once, but then they have a very small market share so why bother with them (until they build the Market share anyway).

IE7 will (most likely) be shite when its released cause m'soft almost always release stuff too early, windows 2.0 prolly the best of the lot! windows 3.0 - arrrrg, Win95 first release - shudder, win98 first release - ok but a few major things missing, win2k first release - not too bad (my windows os of choice atm), ie 4 - best not even mention, ie 5 first release - iffy, but not too bad, ie 6 an alter to shiteness (much better now).

Is Firefox better? More Secure? Probably not, and if it is not buy much. I use both because I have to. I find FF marginally more stable, about the same performance and has some really nice extra features which I use all the time. However the main reason I use FF over IE is because as with most other software from Microsoft when it crashes it ****ing well takes the machine with it 5-10% of the time (under win2k) which I suspect is because developers inside microsoft dont always use their own guidlines for windows programming cause they dont have to. Now I dont care if the crash is cause by a poor browser or a poorly written web app. IE itself and the underlying OS are the responsibility of the same company and the first should not be able to crash the second. And before you ask, yes I keep upto date with patches, both OS and browser and drivers and BIOSs etc etc etc ....

I cant remember the last time a browser managed to crash anything other than itself on any of the other OSs I use. There is simply no excuse for this kind of application behaviour.
