msdirectx.sys worm

just had this coming up on one of the computers in the house, appears msdirectx.sys is the worm however it can't be deleted for more than 5 seconds (avast keeps picking it up and i kept telling it to delete it till i realised it was the same file!) read some stuff on line about a second file respawning msdirectx.sys.

i was wondering if anybosy else had heard anything about how to get rid of it? its bit of a pain as it causes the computer to be really slow and avast keeps popping up an alert window.

Check its not filling up your HD too, sounds like one I had a long time ago ... in fact that's what caused the comp to run slow, there was zero HD space (so no room for swap file etc) left cos it was creating 400kb files in every directory on the HD ... delete them and more would appear, ended up reformatting to be sure it was gone :(
