Nas Drives

I am looking at getting a NAS for streaming video to Xbox, Android/apple tablet, apple/android TV devices and possible interface via the web to watch too (when having to do a weekend shift where there is never any work).

Does anyone have good suggestions and the cheaper the better.

Currently leaning towards a seagate device as they are my preferred HD make but could be persuaded to look at others :)

I have a Buffalo NAS at home with music on it, it ended up going up in the loft due to how noisy it was, but that said *touch wood* it's never skipped a beat, another guy at work also has a Buffalo drive for playing movies on the 360 and once he stopped trying to use the 360 with wi-fi instead of wired it's been fine.

If I had the money and need I'd get a drobo though, but that is quite a jump in costs, if you get any of the driveless one's though get a NAS style disc, I'm not sure what exactly is different but I assume it's something to do with heat dispersal as a normal HDD would have more air flow

I've got one of the old 4 bay Drobos, it's been pretty solid, never had a problem with it and I bought it in 2009 I think. I have it hooked up to a Mac Mini running PS3 Media Server and it streams everything I want over the network to my TV. The newer ones look great but I have no need to upgrade at the moment.

i've got a thecus at the minute but it doesn't spin up properly without some aggressive poking which can be a pita. pretty quick though.

by reputation alone i'd probably go synology next time.

i'd be tempted to trawl the vendor forums to see how much moaning there is and how quickly they get answered either by the "community" or the support staff, that's usually a good indicator.

Your opinion is worthless....
I have a seagate and also a Lacie, the Lacie is the easier and quicker of the two to run, if i was to buy another i would probably go for Lacie again.
