New Autumn Project - Gaming PC

I am hoping, once I get the summer out of the way to invest around 1K in a new Gaming Rig.

Can people lend their (enormous?) expertise in giving me some ideas of the best I can get for that price or thereabouts. Ideally Id like a new monitor in that price as well (something around 22-23inch probably)

I cannot be bothered to buy in the bits and build it myself. As i have had nightmares doing that in the past. Unless of course its the best route to go.

I like it to be as quiet as possible.
FX card just needs to be future proof for 2yrs.
Not too bothered about fancy lighting as the case sits out of view most of the time anyway.

Ive looked around and there are so many company's I am a little lost. But for comparison my old PC is a Dell XPS machine ;- bought 4yrs ago with 4GB ram and running a Q6600 2.40 intel processor with a 1GB radeon HD5700 FX card (the FX card being the only thing changed so far)

So thoughts ???

I normally get bits from Scan and build myself, but they also build systems for you and they keep winning awards so....

Something like this? http://3xs.scan.co.uk/ShowSystem.asp?SystemID=1015

I'd tweak the config a bit to add a bigger HD, better GPU (670 or something), the monitor you want, I'd choose the antec 300 as that's good enough and knock off the OS unless you need another copy. I reckon it would come in at around 1200. There are other systems on there as well, you can get cheaper if you go for a 560Ti GPU or an AMD based system, to be fair these days they're all much of a muchness unless you go mental and spend a fortune like I always end up accidentally doing.... but then if you're only doing a major upgrade every 5 years then it's worth it to get the best you can (or so I keep telling myself)

Oh and an SSD would make a massive difference, but anything of a decent size would be another 150 at least, the Crucial m4 is very good.

so easy to just talk yourself into it a bit at a time, isnt it? start off on 800, and before you know it you've made it up to 1200 in 20 increments...
