up to around 90 spam bots now.....

really need some better forum software, was looking at xenforo but future development is in limbo and I don't want to upgrade vB because a) it's shite now and b) Internet Brands, the company that bought Jelsoft, is a hive of villany and evil.

Have you looked at PHPBB - it doesnt seem as rich but it worked okay. Not sure how you can overcome the spambots with it though.

Is there no possibility to get some sort of add-on/plugin to deal with the spam bots?

PHPBB is a bit sucky, and we're running an out of date version of vB at the moment so the plugins don't work. We're using Google reCAPTCHA but the bots get straght past it these days.

I was waiting for XenForo to mature a bit before migrating but it looks like it will be early next year before we know if it's going to carry on being developed.

Seem to have stemmed the flood a bit by blocking a few email domains from being used during registration, gmail being the main one. Not seeing any hotmail accounts, I guess Microsoft are doing something better than google!

Git/Legs - are we automatically upgrading all existing CUK forum members to Baboon (3rd level?) status? Not sure what u two had planned, so not done that for anyone yet.

Would make sense to me as all are already confirmed CUK'ers from old or do you want to restrict that for a bit?

I don't mind doing whatever as I never set any of the ranks so not sure which rank can do what, what does each rank allow?

Turned off registration again, and deleted another batch of several hundred spam bots.

I'll re-enable it when I find some decent forum software to upgrade to
