Ok starting to think about finally getting a new PC ,as this one is 7 yrs old and knackered.

Looking to spend around 500.

Saw this on OCs and thought it might be worth a look.

Intel i3 3220 Dual Core Ivybridge CPU, Intel H67 Motherboard, 1600Mhz DDR3, DirectX 11 Graphics, 500GB HDD + Upgrade Options, DVDRW, Choice of Windows Operating System, 430W Corsair PSU

520.99 inc VAT

Questions:

Window 8 or 7?

Can I play Skyrim, World of Tanks and most games on 8?

Will my photos & files on work on 7 or 8 as I have Win XP Pro now?

No idea about the CPU so any advice would be appreciated.

I'm intending to order late July.

I'd say 8. Some people hate it but mostly are just being girls about the UI changing. Go for 7 to be safe though as it's rock solid.

Yep it all works.

The cpu si a bit underpowered, and will struggle with Skyrim et al as you are relying on the on-board graphics processor. it's a huge step up from previous ones, but still not a patch on a real PCI-E GFX card.

The new Intel Haswell based CPU's are just starting to hit market, so should be in the high street by the end of July. They have a far better integrated GPU, though still far less than bang than you'd get from a Separate card.

In general it seems rather expensive for what you are getting.
I presume you are after a Pre-built system instead of a DIY job?

Can you stretch to this?

I found I would rather spend a few hundred more for a rig that will last through the next 3 - 4 years with minimal upgrade than struggle in a couple years time. Hence mine cost me 1500.

As chick says you really need to get a better dedicated card. doesnt say how much ram either. This one has a haswell in it as well..

I forgot to add the GPU options...doh! I was thinking about a Geforce 620 Ti or better.

Not up to date enough to be confident in doing a new self build, but those options look good, tx.

a 660 or 660Ti is a great price vs performance point. it'll run (coupled with a decent i5) anything on the current market at 1900x1080 rez and can be picked up for about 100-150

Windows 8 + classic shell = windows 7 with the much better task manager, and it starts quicker. UI in metro works well if you have a touch screen but as I find 90% of what I run doesn't use a proper metro look/feel anyway no real advantage in using the metro start screen. Even office 2013 isn't a metro app which did surprise me
