Aunties that married into money and lost all sense of values own.

Auntie visits us, is impressed by Jo's iBook and how she uses it as 'digital hub!' for her music, photos, dvd editing etc etc.

Auntie goes out and buys a new PC from Dell without asking little 'Marky'

Auntie is confused about why it all looks different and phones little 'Marky'

Little 'Marky' tries to explain the difference betweens MacOS X and Windows.

Auntie asks little 'Marky' to come with her to the Apple Store in London to show her what to buy and then to set it up at home.

Auntie then gives litte 'Marky' the more or less untouched Dell PC by way of thanks \o/

So i got a new high spec Dell PC for nowt, needs a better vid card really (plain 6800 in atm), but once again, im 1 PC to many.

So, gonna sell my one and use the money from that to get the laptop i get close to buying most weekends but then dont as id get ownd when i got home.
So gonna ebay it, but what reserve do you think i should stick on the following....

Asus A8N SLI motherboard (onboard sound/lan)
Apple G5 look-a-like case
Enermax 550w silent PSU
AMD Athlon 64 3200
120 gig Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 SATA drive
Viewsonic 19 inch ultrabrite FST monitor
1.5 gig pc 3200 ram
Gigabye 6600GT PCI video card
LG DVD/CD-RW combo drive
Belkin 802.11g wireless network adapter
Labtec speakers
Microsofr mulitmedia keyboard
Microsoft wireless/optical mouse

Secondly, of the laptops ive looked at, the one thats caught my eye spec/price wise is

http://laptops.tiny.com/computers/home_laptops/13393/61307/Tiny_PowerLite_CM3400_Pro

.. bit wary from buying from tiny and no clue what the performance of these mobile celerons is like, id mainly want it for web browsing, managing music and photo collections, making CDs and some light gaming, not expecting to play HL2 in similar details and resolutions to my desktop but would be nice to be able to play some slightly older games on the move or away for work. Any advice here would be appreciated.

If you had a tenner my dear, youd be crowned Queen on Pontefract and paraded through the market atop the towns 1978 Austin Allegro.

No idea on the PC chap but how much do you want to spend on a laptop?

Ive been toying with Alienware bit discovered AJP which use all the same components and cost around 500 cheaper.

http://www.ajp.co.uk/

Their top end box was coming out at about 1400. Mobile Processors are good, they preserve the battery longer but youll get no where near the same resolution as a bigger PIV machine. However they can eat battery. My Dell (inspiron 9100 brick, PiV Prescott, 1gb ram, 17inch WSGA, Wireless, 64mb ATI 9700 mobility) played Wow at full res looking great but on battery over wireless lasted about 45mins.

Once this new job pans out the Alienware laptop will be mine but Im after a desktop replacement that can play Half life 2 in all its glory.

Well I checked out AJP just now and their top end laptop (the 900DT) works out more than the Alienware laptop. So that is probably not a good idea. Check out their lower boxes though compared to the tiny one your looking at.

Thats way more than i wanted to spend, im after a 2nd machine and a bit of mobility so it didnt need to be mega spec.

Ive actually ordered an Acer, 15.4in screen, 512mb, 1.6g Centrino, Radeon 9700 mobilty, CDRW/DVD-Writer, 60 gig HD and the usual gubbins, 599 , not a bad spec for the price i thought and acer seem to get reasonable reviews.

Only prob is, ive ordered it before selling the spare desktop, so now i need to sell it before it arrives or Jo will insert my new laptop somewhere unsavoury :)

I haven't checked component prices, but going by what my new PC parts cost, I think if you bought new what you're selling it'd cost at least 600 quid.
