Owen to Newcastle.

LOL. Jesus, what a bunch of pricks the top Prem managers are. He goes to a club he doesn't want to go to and they could have guaranteed themselves 20 goals a season. Moronic from Wenger, Benitez, Ferguson and Mourhino. I'll laugh my arse off when he scores against them (if he gets the service that is!).

Also irritating because he might save Souness from the sack :(

Wenger dosen't buy stars mate, thats pretty much how it is with him.

I'm also not sure he would have fitted in as I said before. He would score goals, but I think that to Arsene, fitting in is more important and we wouldn't play to Owens strengths.

I think for Moruihno, Wenger and Ferguson not to be interested, maybe they know something we don't. They have been the top Premiership managers for a long time now after all.

Arsenal need Owen more than anyone mate. If Henry gets injured, you're stuffed. RVP is too raw, Bergkamp is too old and well, I would have thought they would be first in the queue. The fact Wenger doesn't buy star players is complete crap mate. Overmars, Silvinhio, Petit, etc. Aggy agrees with me and I think you're being blinkered claiming you can overlook a player like Owen. Wenger is in particular. I think Arsenal are going to have a tough season this year and end up with nothing.

Liverpool have f*cked it up. Benitez, just on a political level with the fans, has made a HUGE mistake. Sky Sports News is being inundated with angry, nae furious, Liverpool fans. Crouch, Cisse and Moritentes. I'd swap them all for Owen.

And Baros scored on his debut for Villa... :)

Much needed boost for the Toon, assuming he doesn't get into a punch up on the training ground or pass some comment about Geordie girls and get lynched by the Fat Slags outside St Jimmy's...

St Michael at Newcastle...going to be interesting :/

I personally think it would be nice to see him at Highbury, but our strike force is the same as last season. Better in fact as Reyes ran Fulham ragged the other night and looks like he is more confident and more up for it and Bergkamp looks as good as ever. We scored 87 goals, twice as many as Everton who were 4th and Bolton who were 6th . We score from so many different positions that I just don't think we need another striker. We can afford to overlook him imo.

Overmars was getting a bit of a sicknote rep when he came to us. His last year at Ajax was pretty average. Silvy was hardly regarded as World Class, and cost peanuts relatively. Petit was virtually unknown unless you followed French football and was regarded a very solid player at Monaco for 9 or so years. He was 28 when he came to us. None of these players were setting the world alight at the time they came to us, I mean; they came to Arsenal at a time where there was great change and we had been having a torrid time under Rioch. If they were that highly rated at the time, they would have gone to a bigger club. By the time they left, and they weren't the same players after they left, they were world class.

I'd rather we paid the money for a world class CB which is where we are really short.

An injury to Henry would be bad, but so would an injury to Rooney for ManU, who have more money than us, but only have the peroxide thug to come in for him if he did get injured.

Thinking about it more, I would be horrified if we did pay 15-20mil for a striker when we have such obvious weakness in another area.

I think Owen will be good for whoever he plays for, but we need to be spending our fairly small funds at the moment elsewhere and scoring goals is not our problem.

Regardless of who or what else we buy/need, I'd have liked to see us get Owen.

Last season there were so many times when we:

Kept looking for the perfect final ball which never came instead of playing more direct.
We keep passing instead of having a shot.
Faced opposition who packed the midfield so we couldn't break them down.
Put the ball in the box and there was no one there.

This season has started the same way and Owen would do a lot to solve the problems.

My concern would be who out of all the talent Wenger has lined up in attack has to miss out due to Owen.

Of course this no longer matters but it would have been a nice problem to have :)

Solving those problems would mean changing the way we play and not by buying one player. I don't think we would suddenly stop looking to score the perfect goal because we bought Owen. Its the way Arsene plays. We would need a new manager to change that.

I think we have the players to score by playing more direct without him. Freddie, Pires, who will catch Henry if we played more direct? I just don't think that Arsene wants to play that way and its why he made comments about Chelsea's direct play. Daft as it may seem, and it does sometimes, he dosen't want to hoof it even when things are not working out.

Funnily enough though in the Fulham game, some fans ended up shouting out to just "Fucking shoot" about half way through the first half and even more amazingly, the players did seem to start having a pop more.

As you say, who do you leave out. If you remove Bergkamp for Owen then it will mean a change of tactics, and knowing Henry, I'm not sure how they would play together. If Dennis was 100% then I would still start with him and Tel over Owen. Which then means that Owen dosen't get the football he needs in World Cup season.

We did score 90 goals though for all of that. I don't think we would score even more with Owen, he would just score some that other players may have. We lost the title last season because we were shit in defense.

Not just that.

We also lost the title because we were unable to score or score more than one in some matches.

We don't score many scruffy goals or have a genuine striker who plays in the box and poaches goals.

Owen would give us another dimension to our attack IMO.

Then again, Lupoli is 18 now. If he bulks up, gains strength and experience then perhaps Wenger views him as doing what Owen could do for us without the price premium.

Owen back pedalling and trying to back out of the Newcastle deal, but looks like its too late.

I reckon Fat Freddie got him pissed last night and threw him in with a couple of 50 year old Geordie hookers - 'Cum sygn far us lad, ya'll be the next Roowney.' 'Ah fook it, gis a pen.'

The board have back him and given him the money to spend, so it'll be even more funny when he fails :)

Interviewer in ST James Park : ' SO Michael what do you say to people who talk about you only being here to secure your England place and that you will invoke the release buyout clause next summer?'

MO : ' I'd like to think I can be here for thenext four years'.

Cue thousands of adoring Geordies cheering their hearts out.

They've always been amongst the best fans; they deserve better. They'll be burning those no.10 shirts by their thousands next summer.

You little liar Tommy....
