I tend to have (what seem completely random arrangements of the 4 types of character, and at least 12 chars long if permitted, but does mean I have to keep those somewhere (in an encrypted file on a seperate server, which uses a 25+ char keyword to protect it) kinda a pain when I need to use them, but at least feel I'm not using the same password on every site anymore lol

To manage my passwords I use mah brainz!!

but some security guy once told me any password over 13 characters is really hard to hack due to the way the computer stores it or something. also use a passphrase, not a password such as

knocknockletmein or something

it won't help much as what I use is on mac/iPhone, but iPassword has recently become what I use (mac/iPhone only though from what I can see)

the simplest form of "Hard to break" password consists of 2 real words with a string of punctuation / numbers in the middle.
Long, strong, and soft on the brain too. eg.

Fishing&^%Barbecue

Others involve taking full sentances and usign leading letters, comverting some into numbers using standard l33t conversion. eg:
(real old root password for Easynet:)
"Sky broadband is turnign into a support nightmare"
becomes:
5bb1t145n

However, if you wish to generate totally random passwords, check out WAPG - Available to download from the download link on that page.

I've never been a great fan of Password managers. However if you are set on one, then i'd sugest using a seperate mesium such as a PDA / Phone (Blackberries have a password keeper on them) rather than storing the password keeper on the same computer as the resources.
