PS Home, open beta tomorrow

Rough Description:
Imagine an MMO, with poor graphics, tons of advertising, nothing to kill, only the REALLY annoying emotes, a few more adverts, and some impressive looking "game rooms" for some of the games, Warhawk and the new Motorstorm stand out I'd say, and maybe Uncharted if you like that kind of dodgy bar look, now remember it's sony so if you want that cool looking t-shirt you have to pay for it, same goes for stuff for your house. About the only good sounding thing was there was talk you could go into your PS3, invite a friend into your house, but a blu-ray movie in your PS3, and you'd both virtually watch the real movie in your house and could still chat, but I'm pretty sure that was pulled, but you can (when they make that bit live) walk to the cinema and watch (pay to watch) a movie, so walk in, sit down, and then I assume the movie goes full screen.
But then you have to remember to live in Europe so won't get the nice stuff like movies for another 'x' years because Sony still don't value there EU customers.
If it wasn't for LBP though I doubt my PS3 would be used at the mo, I hope that has some nice cool room in Home, no idea why I want it as I don't really understand what use these lobbies are but hey.

I'm amazed at how much of a cock up Sony keep making with the PS3. The Playstation 1 & 2 were two of the greatest consoles ever, but the PS3 is a total dog. If HD DvD had beaten Blueray i'm pretty sure Sony would have scrapped the PS3 as the blueray player is the only decent thing about it.
looking at sales the fact HD DVD lost doesn't mean the bluray will win, it could be another mini-disc fiasco. But then in the current climate why pay that much more for something which if we're all honest doesn't really improve the enjoyment of a film, except with the expection of natural history programs which I think do benefit from HD.
Unless you're the kind of person who watches a film a frame at a time and has to study each frame for 5 or 10 seconds
If you can let people watch a film you have on your PS3 though that'll be okay, I have some good rips of my old DVD's on it, Grosse Pointe Blank and Princess Bride still being my favourites

PS Home looks like an AMAZING amount of fun, assuming you can actually log in, I tried last night and much to my upset I couldn't log-in and join in a virtual dancing line ....

Okay I got to log in this morning, it went something like this.
okay, this is a nice looking empty room, where's the tutorial ?
Hmm, there is a black bar up there but I can hardly read it on my SD TV (which quite a few PS3 must be running on)
*squint* *squint*
Okay, tutorial done, I know how to dance and say Hi, and sit in a chair, now lets put a stereo in the room, or a TV and watch the media on my PS3
............
Okay I give up, lets go to the Central square
*waits for download*
*waits to zone in* - it takes 28 seconds, okay that must be because it's just downloaded it
*zones back into apartment* takes around 20 seconds
*zones back out* - 27 seconds
Hmm this place is a ghost town, literally, everyone looks like a ghost, I guess it is loading textures
Walk around the square, it's pretty much like a really nice looking, but totally dead shopping village square, lots of emptyness, but there is a bowling alley, a shopping mall (hold me back), and a cinema screen type thing .. ohh maybe I can watch my media in there

Maybe there is good stuff in the square *walks around* chequers .... chess .... a crowd of people and I kid you not the first thing I read as I walk up to them is someone saying "Oh, I just wish you could really feel the atmosphere"
I sat down to cry at that comments

1 person stands directly infront of me and does a hip thrust move while I use the default text to say "Yes", "Yes", he walks off in discust
Bloody hell a woman is here, you can just about make her out through the people crowding around her

I figure the cinema can't be worse than this and go back to it

I give up and turn the PS3 off
I didn't see the appeal before, and I doubt I'll ever load it up again, I was a little confused why there is a PS Home gate that is closed, is there going to be something fun in there, something that would actually make people want to put up with the boredom and amazingly slow loading times ?
