PvP stumblings

Since I know some others are interested in PvP:-

Big aid to learning -> Use observer mode to watch some tombs/GvG matches.
(Menu / Observe or press B.)

I've been having a go at PvP in the competition arenas with my PvP Ra/Mo Monkey Dust. 12K faction so far. Missed out on some because it tops out at 10K unspent faction. You HAVE TO spend it. I've unlocked a couple of runes and am unlocking bow grips/strings at present with my faction points.

It doesn't take all that long to create a PvP character. 5 minutes maybe. All the skills and runes and weapon mods ANY of your PvE characters have unlocked are available to you.
You can change your 8 chosen skills when you are in town.

It is a pain though if you have ONE PvP character and then want to play a different PvP character (switch primary or secondary). You have to delete and re-create. This is also true if you want to switch armour or change runes or weapons. PvP character templates may appear at Chapter 2.

PvP is a completely different game btw. Very fast with knockdowns and quick damage dealing the order of the day. Playing a good monk is extremely difficult since you are the primary target - so you have to know how to look after yourself. My PvE monk got seriously pwned in the Team Arenas. :(

The Competition Arenas (CA) get you into an immediate random 4 man team straight away. Be prepared to lose often and hopefully learn quick.
I've been there mostly the last four days. At least there's no hanging about.

The Team Arenas allow you to create your own 4 man team with friends/guildmates. You can expect this to be even harder since teams will be organised and may well be using voice comms. But then so can we.
Hopefully some of us can spend some time here getting pwned and getting better. If you want to join a PUG here, expect to wait . . .

Off the radar for now . . .

Tombs are for 8 man teams and is where the real PvPers play. You NEED an organised 8 man team to have any hope here. Voice comms is pretty much required as well. If you win matches in tombs you win FAME points (as well as faction). At certain levels of FAME you gain RANK. At rank 3 you get a special emote (stag). Rank 6 and 9 also have different emotes.

You have virtually ZERO chance of being invited into a PUG for tombs unless you are rank 3 or above. So unless you have 8 guild mates to go into tombs with, you can pretty much forget even getting a game, much less actually winning one.

You can watch Tombs matches in observer mode. (From menu or press B.)

GvG (Guild v Guild) requires an 8 man guild team. I don't know a great deal about the subtleties of this. From watching a few in observer mode it is more involved then it at first seems. Teams often have 3 monks and it tends to be a war of attrition. Teams gain morale boosts if the hold the flag stand for 2 minutes. It is normal to have a dedicated flag runner (R/Mo or R/Me). The NPC footmen/archers are picked off before killing the opposition Guild Lord.

GvG can be ranked or unranked matches.
If we get 8 together we should try a few unranked matches to begin with just to learn the layout of the halls and how to organise ourselves.

When we get in the winning habit we can try ranked matches. Ranked matches affect your ladder position. Losing is bad!

I have a played around with pvp. I have been in the tomb matches, but you are right you get killed alot, its very hard. I have a Paldin type but have been thinking of changing him( I like rangers more). Maybe a RA/Me .
Pvp is quite good for a quick bash on GW.

Funny you should say that . . . .

I have just re-rolled Monkey Dust as a Ra/Me and given him Backfire and Signet of Weariness (both Domination). After a couple of false starts in CA I was in a team with no monk who won six on the trot including killing a team with two monks :)

And yes, it's good for a quick bash.

Very much so.

I can't believe my first ever dip into PvP (several months ago in the Team Arenas) with my Ranger/Monk went so far as 17 consecutive victories. I was gasping for a ciggy after that! Wa/Wa/Mo/Ra. THEY knew what they were doing!

If we could persuade someone to try a PvP monk, the team arenas could be good for a laugh :)
