Anyone else interested in this (online card collection game), the purchasable beta (like minecraft) is purchasable from next week, and you'll be able to buy all the cards with in game credits, or if you want to be lazy you can buy shards with real money and get them quicker (but nothing exclusive only purchasable with shards)

For 13 and having seen the video I think it's worth a go :)

I enjoyed Might and Magic on the iPad and then fairly quickly seemed to hit a point where I just couldn't win the games any more and couldn't see a way to progress without splashing down more money. I like the idea of these kind of games, especially on the iPad but not the mechanic of having to pay what seems the same as buying a real physical card, I know the artwork and design still cost money but I'm pretty sure digital cards should be a fair bit cheaper than they currently seem to be. Hex looks good but I'm cautious it'll end up being another thing where cash is front and centre to the game model.

I'll give scrolls a bash and let people know here how it is

Edit: I should point out, maybe I'm just rubbish but with the started deck I picked with Might and Magic I felt pretty stuffed fairly quickly

i dont mind splashing a bit on these 'free to play but not really' games - so long as 2 things happen.
a) i get something significant - not necesarily in effectiveness terms (in fact, preferably not!), but just noticable. skins in lol are a great example.
b) i don't end up spending more 'per hour of entertainment' than i would for a retail game.

the problem is the number of ones that dont do these things... where they expect you to pay stupid sums of money for almost nothing - a 10% better gun or something.

we'll see with hex though - i'll probably splash on a kickstarter for about 30-50, because cryptozoic have provided me with a lot of entertainment with the wowtcg over the years, and because a couple of freinds of mine are going to do the same, and it should be fun. might end up just a replacement to the wowtcg, that we can play on our ipads with each other still in the same room :p

I agree totally on the free to play stuff, RAD I think is a good example of it (my turn based strategy game keeping me going until xcom hits the iPad), and Candy Crush is a bad example of it. The sad fact is though more and more are using the bad business model because it seems to work, another thing I like is a game with purchasable content in it, with something like a 2.99 or 3.99 full unlock option that just gets you everything, so you can try the game for free and then if you like it pay to get the full experience without paywalls.
