This aint a new book but after reading this article by a guy who works for Valve I was intrigued and have to admit I really enjoyed it. Its not flawless but have enjoyed the concepts involved.
Am kinda torn about tracking down anything else he wrote though, not sure if he is a one trick pony or not. Even if he is its certainly a good trick

Diamond age is great but a tricky read. If you feel a bit unfufilled after reading it, read it again. Cryptonomicon is awesome, really recommended.

Zodiac is pretty cool.

I'd skip the rest of his stuff myself, but that's personal taste

Am now reading a book for possibly all the wrong reasons *grin* I suspect it was written by the elder brother of a lass I was at school with and set in the same dodgy area. Its about some poor schemie having a psychotic episode and I suspect that its pretty much from personal experience.So far its kinda scary how wildly mad the main character is. The One, by Paul Reed.

if you enjoyed snow crash i can also heartily recommend the early works of your clansman Ken MacLeod; namely The Star Fraction, Stone Canal and Cassini Division. Oh and Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan. All intelligent libertarian Sci-Punk works.
