Starting Up?

Is there much point? I am assuming I would have to do a horrible amount of grind to get where you mostly are?

I have a week's holiday from work this week, so, I thought maybe this might be worth a shot, or is it "too late in the game".

Thoughts please! ;]

As you only get 4 character slots & so many classes/subclass combinations to choose from many people start new characters all the time so it's never to late to join the game & with our help it wont take you long to get into the game :)

There's very little grind in GW. A dedicated player could make 20 (top level) & be Ascended (pvp enabled) in under 40hrs played, I reckon. Longer if you want to do things solo, dot all the Is and cross all the Ts.

We've already had a couple more joiners this week, so you won't be alone.

The expansion pack isn't due for another six months, so relatively speaking, its still early days.

Normally I'm available for help, although I will admit this week I've been a bit obsessed on getting TWO characters ascended (1 mission to go each).

You can also start a lvl 20 (max) PvP only character from the off, although you won't have all skills and equipment unlocked. So when we get the Guild Hall (within the week) we should easily manage an 8 man team, even if ppl haven't reached that stage through PvE.

The advantage of doing the PvE is that you will unlock more skills through quests and find more gear to unlock making it available for PvP.

We haven't done any pure PvP nights yet, but once we have the Guild Hall I reckon we will do fairly quickly, with most people using PvP only characters.

So GW doesn't exactly eat your life away, but still has its fun parts.

That is exactly what I am looking for :] The FPS' all get a little boring after a while, WoW was just eating WAAAY too much time...

The negative points:-

* any power gamer will be frustrated at the lack of high level PvE content, so I've read, not that I've hit any of it yet ;) That's what the expansions are for.

* as it has no monthly fee the community tends to be younger, with a tendancy to rush in and die in PUGs. It has its amusing moments though, being called 'dad'. I claimed my 'armageddon slippers' were l33t.

* quite a few CUKers have tried it and gone back to WoW. But I have no experience of WoW, so can't give an explanation. May be a critical mass thing.

Thanks darkswan....

I doubt I will be returning to WoW, I have a very active social life, I also work about 55 hours a week, so there is just not enough time to give to WoW.

That sounds like a good thing on the average age...... plenty of noobs to spank :]

Never was much of a high end PvE fan, it's always fun at the start, but by the time you have seen a few sprites, you just want to get on with the PvP!

The thing thats been annoying me the most.. is that low level mobs still attack you :( its a pain in the arse having to kill all those stupid scorpions and such for no reason.. 0xp.. If i didn't have to stop and kill them every 2 seconds to reach a quest i would be much happier..

You seem to be encountering the same problem I had early on. I even wrote about it here, but its been vaped.

The problem occurred because I had been going out and doing all the quests but NOT doing the missions, so some quests involved a LONG walk. In fact I found Fort Rannik by adventuring. If I had done the first mission, then I would have ended up at Fort Rannik that way - and got 1,000+xp.

Some final quest locations will be nearer one town than another. It may not be closest to the town where you get the quest. This is particularly true of the ones you get at Piken Square, where the big XP quests are better started from the Grenditch Courthouse (you DO have to trek to Grenditch to find it).

Sometimes it is a good idea to select a quest in your log, then go outside town, press M for the big map, and see how far away the destination is. (The green star will either be the location of the final target or the location of the zone you have to pass through to get to it.) Then map to another town you have already found in that direction, and repeat. You may find that the green star is significantly closer.

It isn't necessary to do ALL the lower level quests. They have added quite a few since the game came out. Some give skills (useful) others just give XP or items (not so useful).

You really aren't missing out in XP if you don't do certain quests. There is plenty available on later quests and missions. And as you have found, if you are too high a level for an area the XP/min really drops because of all those 0 XP kills.

If you advance the game by doing missions, you will enter areas where your XP will be better, and other skill quests are available.

Some skills you will really want, others maybe not so much. It is difficult to tell first time through I know.

I know I spent far too long around Ascalon City with my first character.

Do the first couple of missions, then find Piken Square and Grenditch Courthouse and hoover up the XP/skills :)

And if there's a better weapon etc you really need, just ask. We can probably find something for you.

Edit: P.S. When checking final quest locations (as above) you may want to check several other quests too. Sometimes you can complete two or three in an area without trekking there multiple times.
