Strange video problem

Just recently, mostly on youtube but occasionally in videolan too, things will be chugging along nicely when suddenly white outline boxes sort of shimmer across the screen momentarily and sometimes figures on screen have a white outline for a split second. It looks like some dodgy video effect from Barbarella or 1960s top of the pops. Its very intermitent but annoying. Anyone know whats going on?

Sounds like a bit of video lag, possibly a network bandwidth problem. Are you seing small sqares of the image that don't update or go out of focus as well?

One thing I've noticed is that YT have changed their movie player to auto select resolution modes and it may have just been switching. I'd recomend just setting it to something rather than let it change resolutions multiple times which cause it to re-start downloading the next section of whatever you're watching. I don't know if video lan use the same auto select thing as well maybe.

Yeah it looks like a deteriorating immage that keeps renenwing itself very quickly hence the slightly psychodelic effect.
