I have to say, that I'm enjoying this so far, especially since I upgraded to a Condor and a new gun :) Mind you I came close to podding last night when I took a kill mission that initially went well (took out 6 pirates), but then had 8 more targetting me....ulp! Phew....glad I could warp out of there with a bookmark!
The slow pace is boring at times, but the fact that you can lose your ship and all sorts makes the battles that bit more exciting.

Q- for all
I followed the tutorial to Perimeter and a new contact. Been taking missions from this new contact, but has the tutorial ended or is this all part of it?
Asking as I never got any free implant if I did finish the tutorial? Seems it is worth flogging the implant rather than use it?

Q from meh!

Dunnow :D

Have a look in your 'journal' to see if you have any active missions there. i think the agent you get handed too sets you on a storyline mission, from which you get the implant. but i can't remember exactly sorry. Is the mission youa re on got a (2 / 5) next to the title, or similar?

Oh, and NPC's wont; pod you. they may pop your ship, but your escape pod is safe. If that happens, just dock at the first station you come too, and you will get given a new Rookie ship. Then use your insurance payout (you have insured your ship righ?) too buy a new hull, and gunz.

Culhaven:
there are a range of things you can do to a ship to speed up that annoying travel timme:
Lear Afterburners up to IV and fit a Tech 2 one. When you drop out of warp near a jump gate, just stick your burner on, and zooom ! (or if it's a designated courier ship, go tfor a MicroWarp drive for extra extra zomzoom! :p) Otherisiwe, if you have any spare Low-Slots, chuck a Nanofibre hull mod into them, they reduce your weight / inertia making warp aligning faster, thus cutting down on your flight times again. Swapping out Armour plates, if you have any, for lighter components (though usually more expensive) is often a good idea too if you feel you can spare the cash.

There are possibly skils too, to make you turn / fly faster, butnot sure. been too busy building a tank.

Cheers Chick, I'll have a look tonight and I reckon I must be on the storyline missions then.

Bought the best insurance I could get, think I spent too much :)

So there I was last night, in a pod again, after losing my umpteenth condor frigate trying to do the same kill mission....sigh.
Gets to a station and ping a skill training completes and hey presto I was soon winging my way back to the mission co-ords in a spanking new Merlin, with 2 rail guns and a rocket launcher fitted, oh and 2 cheapo shields (not sure if u can use 2 shields?). Halfway there I realise that I can't use the launcher, because I don't have the ammo skill wtf?
Get to the instance and target the first pirate.......then discover that the bloody railguns don't like the Thorium ammo I brought to use!
Doh!!
I promptly ran away and quit for the night in disgust at my uber noobness!

I have 2 more days left on my trial and to be honest I'm not sure what I'll do.
All MMOs have go kill x then y missions and minining sounds tedious to me.
What sort of missions do you get as you progress? Do they get a bit more interesting or are they pretty much standard?

Have to say EVE looks amazing and the fact that you can take things slow is a good point and also a bad point for me.

the missiosn are but a tiny part of the game. sounds like youa re progressign slowly with them....

From waht i've seen and experience, you use them to grind up faction rep for l33t stuff later on (6 months time) and to earn startign cash whilst your skills train up.

There are other facets to the game, but i'm mainly missioning with friends in gangs, grinding money and skills atm. we ahve designes on alrger parts of the game, but they are jstu that atm, designs.

Mineing / couriering / pirating all have their place.... speak to people who do them, see what life is like on their side of the fence....

Personally, when bored, i quite enjoy taking my frigate round 1.0 - 0.5 systems hunting out pirates in the asteroid belts.... They get progressively harder the lower sec you go to.

If youa re feeling really sily, go to a 0.3-0.4 system in a throwaway ship and see how long you can survive!

It's basically a sandbox, where you can do wahtever you feel like.....

eg fun game when bored #12: steal seomone's ore can. when they shoot at you, shoto back, blow them up, and get away with it :) (Sorry Aciiid!)

anyway - back to your origional question:
Both. They are more interstng, and alot harder, as things progress. but still revolve around go here and blow up this. The mission engine however is in the middle of a complete overhaul, so things may bet more interesting soon.
