Summer 2007 Transfers

Can't believe Liverpool will make a profit on this idiot, he's been mostly awful all season and yet again been in trouble of the pitch. L'pool must be laughing at West Ham.

This is the curse of having a sugar daddy. You end up paying way over the odds because the other teams know you can afford it.

On quality players it's not too much of an issue - But paying over the odds for a little shit like Bellamy is a joke. I see Liverpool have offered 10 milllion for Babel now.

Aye I'm sure after they offer to double his wages any thoughts of wanting to play for Arsenal will quickly evaporate.

I see the ultimate mercenary Gallas is supposedly at it again. I hope Arsene makes him rot in the reserves.

13.5 includes all sorts of clauses like a mill if we win the league, a mill if we win the CL etc. Its not an impulse buy either, we've been scouting him for over a year. Very unusual for us to come straight back with improved offers, so Rafa really wants him. He would be just what we need on the left wing.

Torres, Lucas, Babel/Quaresma and Heinze would address every position we have been weak in and be massive improvement (I'm in the minority but I think Heinze would be the most important signing of our summer).

We haven't spent anything yet, btw, outgoing players have brought in more cash than we have spent. We've spent none of the Champs League money, none of the usual transfer kitty and the Yanks haven't spent anything, yet.

What do you both make of Walcott compared to this guy ? Very similar price when it comes down to it. Babel is a lot more experienced, though; been first team for Ajax for years and has over a dozen full caps.

From watching them, I find them quite similar.

You can see the raw talent in Walcott with his goal in the Carling Cup and those he scored for the England noob team. But, due to his inexperience, he's more likely to fall over the ball or give it straight to a defender than he is to score or complete a pass.

Babel is the same but with more experience and so less likely to fuck up on the pitch. I haven't seen him as much but I've yet to see anything really special about him so far.

I guess if you're only paying around 6m up front and he actually performs then it's not a bad buy.

If Walcott delivers then I think we got a bargain as he's English and that automatically adds lots of numbers to the fee regardless of actual ability.

16m for Bent still makes me laugh

I thought Heinze was real quality his first season, but he was really shaky last season (he also had a poor World Cup playing CB) looked like a bag of nerves and constantly fouling due to poor positional play. Milan totally destroyed him (again playing CB).

If he can get back his form and confidence he'll be a great signing, if not he'll be iffy.

Agree totally Janie; he was poor last term, but his injury was bad and Taggarts use of him was sporadic. He's v poor at CB. At the price its easily a risk worth taking. At his worst he is still a massive improvement on Riise, at his best he could turn us into title contenders.

Yeah, good point. There hasn't been any leftwing English talent for a decade.

I guess that is part of his price; its also the position (left wing) we have been weakest in for a very long time.

Sagna of Auxerre is in London to tie up a deal with the Gunners, btw.

Well, when The0wn plays on the left wing, he'll be like Henry (without the talent) in that he's totally right-footed and will have to cut back onto his right in order to cross. When that happens, he'll most likely shoot or pass short instead.

I'm hoping if we do sign Sagna then Arsene will stick him at right back and play Eboue on the wing if we're going 4-4-2 again. His defending is poor at times but he's great going forward and probably our best crosser of the ball.

That said, I'd sooner see us try 4-3-3 with Gilberto, Cesc and Rosicky/Hleb in midfield and Ade, RvP and Eduardo up front. Bendtner and Theo can cover in attack whilst Diaby, Denilson, Flimflam and Freddie can cover midfield.

Stupid is as stupid does
Bellamy to West Ham. I expect him to do well there; good signing, at the price.
He's a horrible little cunt and myself and all the other Hammers I know don't want that fucking toerag anywhere near our club.

Worst. Signing. Ever. Grr.

You're just spoilt for top signings these days. Bowyer and now Bellamy. All you need is Kieron Dyer and I'd pay good money to watch you.

I'd like to see Bowyer, Bellamy, Rooney, Scholes, Barton and Thatcher in the same team.

Now that would be entertaining.

Hahaha. It's a good job your lot enjoy booing your own team then isn't it?

Shame he's not black, that would really get up the miserable bunch of racists you all call fans noses! (Not saying your one Ky :) )

Bellamy and West Ham...you deserve each other!

Will that be including the Babel fee along with the silly amount for Torres. Wasn't he something like 26mil or some such other daft figure?

I'm suprised people think Lehman is a nasty/dirty player. He gets a bit silly at corners but is a real gent off of the pitch.
