The Belgariad

Just started reading this, avoided it for years for some reason. Enjoying it very much, sometimes think "This is a bit hackneyed" but then remember that a lot of writers copied or were influenced by it and it was fresh when written. Was thinking that so far its Star Wars with two Obi Wan's instead of one in Mr Wolf and Polgara. Good stuff.

Not read the series since around 20 years, but really enjoyed it and the next few by Eddings. A bit hackneyed as you say, but good fun none the less.

Read all his stuff a few times and still enjoy them. The Mallorean after the Belgarian is almost the same story but the characters are still fun, The Elenium and Tamuli series and different world and characters and still enjoyable. His characters are always likeable and some good humour in the books too.

I find Eddings very easy reading which is good when your brain-tired. The story might well very fairly archetypal but I really enjoyed the interactions between the chars. The Sparhawk books had the same feel to them too. Well worth a read.
