What a strange lineup! There is actually some decent stuff on it - The Gaslight Anthems (who?) version of 'Changing of the Guards' is great and there is fun to be had with Bad Regelion's Baby Blue.
But really Mr Tamborine Man, Knocking on Heaven's Door and Watchtower already have really famous (and great) cover versions.
....And Kei$ha, Miley Cirus and Mick Hucknall???? Why!!

I know its a good cause but I never understood albums like this. Alright for one listen, but if I want to listen to Changing of the Guards I tend to bang Street Legal on the record player. And they are invariably sub standard versions of the original. I'm with Paul Morley on this one - if you are going to do a cover versoin there is no point unless its better than the original. I am racking my brains trying to think of a cover version that is better than the original. Dave Mason's version of Take it to the limit is the only one I can think of off hand.

If The Byrds covered the complete song of Mr Tamborine Man rather than just a tiny portion then I think it would be amazing.

Hurt by Johnny Cash
Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley
Wild is the Wind by Bowie

Are 3 covers I think are better than the original by someway.

It irks me no end that everyone thinks that Proud mary is a Tina Turner song. Its a Credence song and John Foggertys vocal is much better than her screech anyway. Ditto with God gave Rock and Roll to you - Argents original is far superior to the Kiss one.
